Separate item slots for boots and gloves would be great if possible, though I understand if that would mess with the save games...

Has been suggested before. There's two reasons to not do it: 1. Technical. Save format just not designed for that, and 2. It increases the game management overhead. Right now you have four slots and six items you can equip. You only need to care about four item types when giving i.e. quest rewards. Increasing this number increasing the complexity of decision making. It "may be introduced in later games", but certainly not coming in HoS.

Point 1 may be possible to work around with a secondary save file for just 3rd and 4th weapon slots (if e.g. a four armed char was added) and 5th and 6th item slots - maybe just for gloves and helms... I know I'm nutters. Second point for me at least would be easier to manage - I actually have a harder time deciding what not to use, but that's me.

Perhaps in Heroes of Steel 2 we'll change this approach.
The saved game format is fixed and finished at this point.
Part of our commitment to maintain 100% backwards compatibility.
