It looks like a flattened Yen symbol, and is beside the Yen total and your XP total.
What is it for? What do the colours mean? What is its relationship with heat? I used to think that it had something to do about the time remaining for your courrier missions, but now I think that this is wrong. So is it something to do with how much attention you are getting from the Security system? In which case, can I hack the system to make it not notice me, or notice me less, or confuse me with somebody else? (If these options already exist, I haven't found them and they need to be documented -- unless, of course, they are part of the in-game story).

I personally dont know about it going red because it never gets red with me,but i think that yellow means that you are "followed by enemies" and you can fix it by going into a hotel, then to another zone and there hotel, and repeat until they lose your trace,or then just wait until they attack you and kill them.
And if i have to guess, i think that red means your followed by enemies AND low on ammo.

Aha! I never noticed the corner where the date usually is changing when I tapped the funny Yen symbol. So it is measuring 'heat' and 'ZRep'? I wonder what ZRep is, and whether the colour changes only indicate that the score is getting larger, or whether there is something correlated that this indicates.
Thank you.

No it changes only if u are followed(only YELLOW),or if u are low on ammo(RED,also red if u are followed AND low on ammo)it indicates only this, what's Zrep??but do u intend the faction rep?

When I tapped on the flattened Y symbol, the first time, where it now says things like 'Enemies are closing in' it said
Heat 15 ZRep 0
I haven't managed to make this happen again, but it did once. So I wondered what 'ZRep' is.

Yes, 'Zone Rep' sounds most plausible, especially since it was under a text of 'heat'.

Aha -- I found out what happened -- if you tap on the reputation or heat bars (by mistake when you were aiming for the flattened Yen symbol, for instance) down where I am now getting 'you are low on ammo and your enemies are closing' messages you will have those replaced by: Heat X Zrep Y So its not the funny flattened symbol at all, just my fat fingers.

Glad you all figured it out! Complicated, eh?
CK-154, CK-155, and CK156 are targeting to move those statuses into the HUD in individual graphical ways (Exhausted, Followed, Low on Ammo) so that they are ever-present and clearer.

CK-154, CK-155, and CK156 sound wonderful. Do you have these all listed someplace where mere mortals can read them?

Nope =)
But, if you do get a number, its in our project tracking system and targeted to a future milestone for the game. Its your guarantee that we have listened, care, and are going to do something about it.
That's the best we can offer.

Right now the yen symbol can be green, yellow, orange or red.
Shows the combination of followed and ammo. Click the symbol for a full explanation.
Z Rep is the slang for Zone Rep that we will be using.
