Anyone else loving neptunes as much as I am? I've got Neptunes on my current Ironman squad. I'm not playing Soldiers at all on this playthrough unless the level requires it. Suppressing Fire is so amazing. The massive heat buildup in Ironman is preventing me from using Overwatch as much as I would like. I'm probably 1/2 way through. Maybe, I'll get more points into Full Vent to really help release the heat.

For me Neptunes are the generalist specialist. Fits well with every group on every mission.
Hydras have become more of a specialist then a class I would build an entire group around.
The one big thing hydras have going for them is the ability to prevent enemy spawns.

Detonation Site (Ironman): extraction looked almost impossible, and the squad thought the end could be near: Until Neptune brought out Suppressing Fire and took out 8 Xeno with one shot!

Hahah, a few threads ago it was all about how Hydra was king and Neptune was weak.
I love it.

fallen the new heat lock rules as well as the Neptunes reliable killing power against high armor targets put it ahead. Hydras are useless against magma carpaces, litches, Goliaths Not great against plated hunters or reg carpaces, or narvidians So unless I'm on a 9+ deployment I won't pull out a hydra unless it's required for the mission.

Not given Neptune's a chance yet, map and situation relevant anyway. A hydra can restrict and suspend spawning in undestroyable spawn points with napalm.

I have to say, that it doesn't seem like the Hydras are quite as great as they used to be. In BF I'm loving the Neptunes. Looking back at an old thread reminds me how much I miss having to move my whole squad down long single-wide hallways. It was an art form that had to be mastered in TA. startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/4986/hydras-rule-neptunes-drool

Looking back at an old thread reminds me how much I miss having to move my whole squad down long single-wide hallways. It was an art form that had to be mastered in TA. startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/4986/hydras-rule-neptunes-droolHeh, from the Berserk reference, that was after the Hydra's best time. The only time I had a big use for one was pre Zerk, post Hydra buff, post Neptune nerf. Then because the Hydra really didn't need a Gunnery skill, it could be built as this clumping heavy armored melee fist menace covering the Neptunes' back that was able to fart flame a bit if it needed to. Even my last squad on my dearly departed 1st gen Kindle Fire that died early this year that was under the higher ammo costs couldn't find a place for one. The TBf version is much better and I'm probably going to try an Ironman squad out with just Paladin & Hydra to save the RP costs since using a bullet chainsaw or ginsu axes to smash xeno pods into organic mud isn't good enough, so it may be more efficient to go Hydra + Soldier to avoid splitting RP costs so much. Heh reading more on that thread and the conversations: Chaplain: "Brothers, how do we kill heretics, witches and xenos?" Initiate Brother: "With bolter bullet and blade Brother!" Neophyte Brother: "What about flame, Brothers?" Chaplain: "We are not Sisters, Brother?"
