Ok so imagine realm of the mad god meets star traders rpg. Now they would need to tweek a few things as far as combat and ai but I think a rogue like multiplayer version of this game would be absolutely amazing to do this they would need to implement a few things
#1. An agro system along side the standing system. for instance you buy some goods during a trade ban your standing goes down and the regular affects that happen during the game come into place. Now to balance it out now when you pirate and destroy ships you get an aggression level which means bounty hunters of the offended party will now be out hunting you and get significantly stronger over time to hunt you down and eventually end you.
#2. Permanent death and a leader board showing who managed to amass the most wealth maybe also separate categories for like most ships destroyed and ect. Also 2 separate leader boards 1 for the current best living captains and the all time record which has a captains wealth recorded at they're time of death
#3. Pvp and changes to combat first off for combat you would need a cool down system so you can only try to move in or retreat so often as well as firing and have this change based on the ships engines/sails and firing speed based on weapons. As for boarding that timer will be determined by sails and engines as well determining if you can keep within boarding range while the other party is desperately trying to flee or vice versa
#4. Instead of years the game would need to go by a global time for everything to mesh correctly
#5. Needing a special upgrade to your ship to be able to find and fight other players (you can be targeted by a player who has the upgrade even if you don't)
#6. The ability to receive contacts to hunt other players you'll need the upgrade from #5 and then you'll be able to see where they are and track them when they're in green space
#7. Now to round everything off once you have a huge wealth and are really doing well and are in the top 10 of the server you automatically get a bounty put on your head and anyone can track you when your online that way no 1 person can become like a trader or whatnot and just run around making billions untouchably #1
#8. The last thing I could think up for this is a way to search for people's caches on planets but incurring an agro level for it just like pirating
Extras. Ok so about the aggression meter I think it should only be implemented vs other players like if you pirate an NPC you wouldn't have any trouble at all (well nothing you wouldn't normally get) but take out a player and that's all she wrote
