Trying to figure out how the game decides what Templars get deployed. Just completed the Righteous Fallen: Bridge level and the initial deployment was Captain, 1st Soldier, 1st Scout and the Neptune I'd just recruited after unlocking them with RP from the Deck 7 battle. Needless to say I swapped the Neptune which had horrible Gear and Talents for my Hydra but interested in what logic the game uses to decide the Templars deployed. If it was just the highest level/XP Templars getting deployed I'd understand but in this instance it deployed my lowest level/XP Templar.

You having just recruited a Neptune is a coincidence. You always start with a Neptune on that level even if you don't have one recruited.

Bleh why would you start with one on that level, they don't have any special purpose for the Bridge defense, better to just assign my top Templars regardless of type instead of some lower level/untrained Templar and making me swap them out. Now if there was a special purpose for a Neptune at that point then it would make sense.

Swap is an option there but if someone wasn't aware of who got deployed they might be in trouble. It's to bad there's not a pre-deployment screen that showed which Templars were getting deployed and let you make the swaps you wanted prior to actually starting a level. Would prevent accidently moving or taking another action with a Templar you wanted to swap out.

Would prevent accidently moving or taking another action with a Templar you wanted to swap out. But this would also deprive you of the ability to swap a Templar into the position you want him or her, and to understand the level, size, map features you can see, all in advance of making Swaps. Thanks for your support

A "mission briefing" screen that let you see the mission, select ordinance, and choose the Templars to deploy, prior to deploying your troops to the mission.

To answer the question, the map contains a marker for each Templar that starts the map.
That marker indicates the Templar class required and if the Templar is available for Swap.
If your squad does not have the Templar class required by the marker, a new one is created.

If your squad does not have the Templar class required by the marker, a new one is created. Default for swappable Templars is highest levels available, yes?

That's correct, the game picks your default Templars based on who has the largest amount of XP.
