So to be clear if I have a colony that has 61 points of upgrades to defend and I meet that threshold with FDF upgrades, is that the most the colony can be protected with? Or does it pay at all to go well beyond that threshold?

I believe Cory Trese said that for a certain amount of overbuild you get a bonus, but it isn't very large.

Above 200% defense you get no bonus.
