Could we update ships vice building new ones? This would correlate well the the regular Star Traders game...take the ship to a planet, it enters the que to be updated as a project.
Or send the ship home for say 25-50% of its original CP to be put towards a building project.

chesspupil - while it is on a possible futures roadmap, this is something we have not been able to accommodate in the engine to date and can't without a gargantuan effort.

Here is how I would see it done, program wise: Menu: upgrade ship with what features? Cost is given up-front once selected. In game... ship is DELETED... if canceled no refund, no old ship returned... issue new ship once appropriate CP is awarded.

While it might sound easy, its pretty massively complicated. At the moment, it's on the possible futures, but not something we are going to start working on any time soon.

What about a repair option... where the player invokes a loss of the unit completely for half the number of turns a full refuel or repair would take, in order to symbolically give the ship a faster repair rate or refuel while planet side? Canceling at any time would result in no-repair... grey out ship as if MP and AP have been spent until complete.

Interesting idea! We'd more likely base it around a colony spending credits to boost repair in its area than a ship action.

Would it work as a Focus? Something like this would be amazing in those drawn-out battles against the Xeno...

Obviously the original suggestion is way outside of the game's design, but a Repair improving Focus is certainly possible in a future release.

so we are saying upgrading a ship is out, but in essence spending CP to repair the ship is in? That is a good idea...
Do not understand 'Focus' unless it is similar in effect to a Carrier repair or refuel to a fighter, but using CP vice water-fuel of carrier.
--- Give each ship a new option in the sub menu of the ship itself... call it OVERHAUL (Mid to late game w/ a 'SHIPYARD tech')
The ship is given a limited scope of new ships that it can be upgraded to... the loss of the ship is equivalent to 'subsidy' of a new new ship

chesspupil - Focus is a late game option you can use to convert CP into other types of effects on your planets.
