The melee guys get two and the poor fastardos stuck with the fists cannot even get one, not even a buttstroke, muzzle stab or pistol whipping... You know, that does lend lots of weight to the "Templars are too stuck on ancestral memory to innovate or improve ever" school of thought. It probably infects the FDF too since the cannot even do simple OW.

jknut - non-melee Templars don't get counter-attack. Captain gets both (non-melee pistol and counter attack), but I guess leadership has its privileges.

We might include counter-attack on additional classes that we release, but those we'd design in from the start.
At this point we've done too much work on the balance and Talents to go back and spoil it.
The standard Templar is holding a very large weapon system like a Heavy Leviathan, Sniper Rifle or Incinerator.
When they're attacked, they're not counter attacking because of their gear load out and mech.
I haven't seen anyone else complaining about it, so happy to let it go.

Because it is mainly a minor annoyance with proper tactics, depending on bad dice, random xeno spawn weirdness, or weak Templars on high difficulty to even be an issue, especially if you blow off turn limits. IOW, stuff happens, usually not so bad as the at least 1/729 bad luck chance I ran into in one game, so you just keep playing. It only is showing here because of the "no bullets" Ironman runs, which as you correctly point out isn't a game balance issue. Of course, this is the Wish List...

I think more likely it is probably just that players accept not every class has every power. We've gotten a lot of positive feedback about the variety of mechanics, and an often referenced one from our players is the counter-attack and gear systems.
I am sad to hear that you don't like it / don't understand it, but I hope that the other parts of the game shine bright enough that you keep playing.

Why does the Strike Scanner wargear under Engineer Striker 3 requisition, usable by Engineers and Scouts give a bonus to Counterattack when neither class can counterattack?
