I just paid for star traders rpg elite. I have also previously bought Star traders 4x. I like the game itself it's fantastic and worth the purchase if some UI elements are frustrating and could use improvement.
HOWEVER, I just saw an ad pop up. Clever it waited til the time out on the refundability of the game too. If it hadn'hadn't I'd have gotten that refund.
You should not have a paid version of your app that also spits out ads. That's shady, guys. Everything else you do is spot on. No unecessary permissions. Amazing content. Fair prices and offers but if you don'don't nix the ads, this will be my last purchase from you. Sad, really.

The Bros have never run ads, ever. Is it an ad for content in the same game (ie Clans pack and ship artwork) or an internet ad?? I've never had this happen to me.

As beverage pointed out, there are no ads in a TB game except a quick popup from time to time for new content in that game or another that they're going to release soon. Those will get removed after a few updates and you can play for months without seeing another one. If it was an ad for anything else not TB related, the problem is with your device. I've had some phones that came with ad programs that run in the background of every other app and throw BS at you while trying to do something.

No. It was an ad for their new game. Which, I don't mind them including somewhere but make it optional. Something on the main menu where a player can check out other games by the trese brothers. But this jumped right in my face as soon as I opened up the app. Very bad form.

I might be overreacting here but I never expected an in your face ad from TB. I also didn't realize it was their own game until I hit the front page again just now.
Still, feels wrong. Should be optional. At that, I think they should put *more* shameless self promotion into their games. As long as it's optional I have no problems.

Ok, so we have one piece of the puzzle in place. It was a TB ad. Now we can work on the problem of how it affected the refundability. Did you get this on Steam or Google or iOS. Steam has I think a 2 hour time window for getting a refund. The TB's themselves will usually work with you if Google or Apple can't or refuse.

Google. I'm over it. I think the lack of option is wrong but now that I know it's just SSP I'm a lot less miffed.

When we launch a new KickStarter or a new game, an announcement like this will be added to every game. 4) As a small indie studio, we do our best. Sorry that we have failed you. Email me at andrew@tresebrothers.com and we will happily issue refunds for all of our products.

@chak - sign up a forum membership. Join us. Together, we will rule the galaxy - as Cat and ummm Chak!
The TB's promotional material is always limited to the main menu page, and does not appear while you are playing at all. You don't get bombarded with 3rd party ads anywhere at all - even in the free versions of the games. It's a small dev team, producing amazing games. It is important for their own success to cross-pollinate.
There have been a number of debates, often led by the devs themselves as to whether it is okay to have TB ads within the main menu, and we, the players all supported the practice. It's not too overt, and again, goes away when you're actually playing the game. The trick is to force yourself off when you need to go do some real-life task.

I'd just suggest anyone who's confused about the difference between a real pop-up ad and our main menu release alerts ... go play a few hours of a game that uses REAL ads and compare the experience.

Yeah, I was confused. I overreacted. I don't want a refund.
I've been playing the game. It's infuriatingly addictive. I just got to lvl9 doing the starting ship award and was trying to stop my ship to get fuel and the toasts kept popping up and I couldn't stop and finally my crew mutinied and killed me. I probably shouldn'shouldn't have been so greedy but I was mad.

ST is very addictive and it does have a steep learning curve. When this game tells you a difficulty of hard, it is hard. That might sound negative to you, but trust me when I tell you that TB is the best indy developers I have damn seen. As you can tell, they actually listen and respond. ST is about 5 years old and they still update it. I could go on if I wanted. If you want help, ask in here or read what others have asked. I can tell you one thing that is damning. Combat too early = game over. Start on the easier difficulties and ease upward as you get established. Have trade permits and low mitary rank with two or three factions. Stay in the upper left quadrant of the map early on if you have the paid version. I hope you continue to play and I truly hope you fall in love with the ST universe as I have. Ok, I'll shut up now

If you need to review recent pop-up messages, their is a screen that lists them called "Event Log" which was added at player's request.
