Yes, I was speaking if you could not go without, excepting cases where it's used to purify water as in the past.
Brain imaging studies suggest 2 drinks a week is safe for a healthy adult - beyond that is shown to damage brain matter for all but the most hardy. Certain illnesses benefit with more than that, the most studies being for heart disease, but in that case the greatest benefit to risk comes to those over age 70.
The biggest problems are the very young become addicted at rates higher than the 1 in 7 that adults which drink are prone to - that is common across primates so we are not uniquely addicted species. Also the liver breaks alcohol down into a more dangerous compound which is the worse part of toxicity, causing sclerosis of the liver, for regular drinkers, also increasing the risk for cancer.
The alcohol itself is only really dangerous for the young, females to some degree and bingers - its also that not all bodies even of optimal ages handle it equally well... A hardy person having ten servings can be equal to less than 1 for the vulnerable in effect, and people are not good at figuring which group they are truly in.

One thing that's kind of funny with me, when I was around 17 and football came back to St Louis, my mother would let me have one beer if I wanted when we watched a game on Sunday. Sometimes I would, sometimes I wouldn't. The one thing that happened always though when I did have one, just drinking half a 12 ounce can would knock me out. I'd fall asleep halfway through the game. I was a One Beer Charlie as she called me. Surprisingly I built up a tolerance to alcohol and can drink quite a bit now without falling asleep, but that doesn't mean I do. Right now I average about two drinks a month, but I'll go longer without one also. Just depends on my mood.

Which party do you guys think will win the next USA presidential election? I'm almost certain the Republicans will win this one, because all 3 Democrat candidates just don't seem very electable.
Clinton has that e-mail controversy thing. Sanders is too far left for America, he even calls himself a democratic socialist. O'Malley (or whatever his name is) probably can't even become the Democrat nominee.
Looks like the Republicans have this, unless maybe Trump becomes their nominee and gets so divisive that he causes many Republicans to not vote for anyone on election day.

It'd be a good year for a competitive 3rd party run. Call it Ross Perot 2.0 :-p
Whatever of the 2 party there's a good chance the other party will take more seats in the House and Senate in two years to compensate for perceived faults, real or imagined.

I think we're going to see another Obama level upset in the Democratic party. Nobody wants to take steps backward and elect an establishment Republican who is going to repeal everything accomplished in the last eight years. I just don't think it's going to happen.
Full transparency-- I'll be voting for Bernie Sanders, as will most people I know. I'm beyond sick and tired of establishment politics and watching our entire political process being hijacked by big money.

I guess we can keep it general... I enjoy talking about politics, as I see it as one of the most important parts of our society. However-- as long as people don't start getting heated, I would really enjoy some discourse on the subject.

I don't have a drone. Would like to maybe get one. They look fun.
As far a politics goes, there are some thing I think need to be repealed from the past 8 years. There's things from the 8 years before that I think need to go away. I don't know any that has been helped by the new health laws. Everyone I know has had their lives made worse. Politicians have always lied, but Obama is the worst in the past 8 years. I voted for him the first time and then started to regret it as I watched how things unfolded and were going. The way thing are now I'm afraid I'll see a second revolution in my lifetime. I want to believe that there's still a chance for things to get better. However there's just too much back stabbing and lying and cheating going on in the Federal government right now. The checks and balances put in place by the founding fathers are no longer working like they should. This land has become a place of the corporation, by the corporation, and for the corporation. Our economy has been ruined. We are no longer a self sufficient country. China could take us over without firing a shot. There's a lot of hard choices that need to be made and some things we are just going to have to accept or we will lose everything. We can't be civilized nation ruled by law if no one obeys them.

I voted Dem both times and the country I see today is far different than the one I saw with McCain/Palin or Romney/Ryan in charge. I agree that President Obama hasn't gotten much of what he promised done, but our dysfunctional and obstructive Congress shares as much blame as he.
What worries me most about the way our country is run is the self-destructive two party system. Our country is a divided one, and each side views the other as the enemy. It's a dark time when the media is owned by the same people pulling the strings of our political system.
I have no interest in owning a drone... I'm not really a fan of the whole concept-- that my neighbor could be spying on my without me being aware...

I'm not really a fan of the whole concept-- that my neighbor could be spying on my without me being aware... I too am worried about how this has come about. Our founding fathers never even wanted this sort of system. That's why they did so much to help prevent it with all the checks and balances built into the constitution. I hate it so much when I hear someone say that we must figure out or interpret what they meant. It's clear as day what they meant. They wrote it knowing that the average citizen has no formal education. The words are so clear it doesn't take a whole lot of thinking to understand. Here's a nice app I have on my phone, play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hotrod.reference.spiritofseventysix&hl=enGet it and read friends and remember what we were meant to be and can still if we stop all this pointless bickering and back stabbing. I leave you with a quote from a favorite movie of mine, People shouldn't be afraid of the government, government should be afraid of the people.
