As we build out the next major campaign expansion, we're looking for inspiration from you, the players.
Which of the existing levels was your favorite?

Probably the one with the worm (can't remember it's name)

To be honest, I love all of the ground based missions where your Templars have to weed out xenos/take on cultists/etc. That's not to say that the ship missions aren't fun, because they are, but the ground missions have a bigger sense of urgency in them for me. You can see the hastily built fortifications, you can see the scorch marks from fighting, and you are moving through trenches.
Now that I think about it, I like seeing that kind of stuff.

I actually liked the Moklumnue mission where you breach the starport gates and fight up to the gates because you have non-Templar forces under your control, even for a limited time.
Variety is the spice of life. I'd love to see more allied factions -- provided they can be equipped with better weapons than hexshell rifles. Wouldn't mind a multiple-sided conflict: Xenos fighting Narvidians as well as you, so that you have to fight them both to achieve your objectives BUT they are more interested in causing each other grief than attacking you, so you have a chance.
Love missions with high unit caps so I can get XP for more of my troops. Love secondary objectives, sort of like a treasure hunt!
Least favorite missions: Hunt-the-working power switch (though this is a lot less painful once healing becomes available) , final campaign defense of deck 12. I do NOT like having my templars scattered all over the map, then beset with overwhelming force.
Respectfully,
Brian P.

Great feedback. I'd love to hear more about the themes you like as well, even if it isn't a specific level.
It is interesting how often we get polar opposite feedback ... so many people say "I hate the Power Relay" and an equal number of people e-mail saying "I want a bunch more levels like Power Relay"
I think some of the people who are angry about specific levels are just playing a difficulty level that exceeds there skill.

I think that's a big part of it, Cory. I love, love, love your games, but there are more than a couple times where I'll turn of HoS/BF/ST and swear to myself that I'm never playing them again because of some BULLSHIT DEATH AHHHHHHH! Then I cool down, and go right back to it.
Brutus Aurelius mentioned it in my wish thread, but I'll put it here too. I (and Brutus) love stand-your-ground maps. Holding actions and defensive situations are fun.
Maps that give you a choice, even if its just a small one. Should I head to airlock 1 or airlock 2?

I have definitely said that about BF before, in a fury over dying on Ironman.
F**K this game I'm done. The next day I play some more.
I also feel that way about Sunless Sea and Darkest Dungeon.

I like the level where you have to capture 5 tac points. It's fun to have a few maps where the size of your force is smaller or bigger than usual.

I just played Deck 7: Alta Sector and I really enjoyed it. I loved being able to pull out most of my Templars and having to fight a holding action while protecting the TPs.

It's a heck of a fight down to the last in that level, and also a fun level where almost your entire BF can get onto the field, all forced into action on different parts of the map.

Luckily for me they decided to keep hammering the same two TPs for some reason. It was still pretty close, have a Pally, Engi, Soldier and Neptune at each TP and they were just barely fighting them back. I kept the rest at other TPs just in case they attacked another but luckily for me they did not.

margrave - the TPs and attack vectors are different every play through -- that level is always a new challenge! It is lucky they piled up on two, which gives you a chance to bring your forces together.

fallen - yeah I would not have made it through the level with all 6 TPs if RNGesus hadn't decided to favor me. Also managed to pick up the achievement for Expert Miner that level as well, so that was cool.

It is funny the different preferences and play styles. For me deck 7 is one of the easiest in the game and I always end with all the TPs. There's a trick to doing that though.
To the OP though, I do like hold your ground missions, there's something fun about setting up the ultimate killing corridor. That makes me think, there has yet to be a level where overwhelming xenos come from a single direction. So far there are always a couple of directions they come from, and it is generally fun trying to cover all of the angles, but it would be cool to see such a flood of xenos that you need every single templar focusing on a single corridor just to keep your head above water.
I also like insert/assault type missions, I'm thinking of the first part of the "stop the signal" mission. It's fun figuring out how to push forward on every turn without over extending one templar or another.
Ambushes are fun too, because they force the choice of stand and out shoot them, or try and run for cover.
