starlord61 Retreating from that particular fight is a no go. Bosses will either be impossible or very hard to zone away from (lots have locked doors or barricades that prevent it entirely, this fight has stairs that do not function till he is dead).

There's a trick to get out of combat. It doesn't work if you end the turn, however, only works in the surprise round.
Enter combat, wait until fight loads and monsters spawn and you're given control.
Force close game.
Reload game and as soon as you spawn in, there is a moment before the bark and the fight starts. As soon as you hear the bark, start walking away from the fight; the game allows your character walk before the spawn.
Once the monsters spawn and you're given control, force close the game.
Restart the game and if you're still in combat, repeat the steps above until you spawn in and are out of combat. Just make sure you don't cross the fight trigger before you're ready.

I finally got all my heroes close to the stairs and left the map. Slept at the inn then went back and cleaned house.

Since we're on the subject of distance to a fight, apparently my Tamilin ahem...*Selen* is so excellent at stealth that we're alerted to the presence of bad guys so far away from them I use up my entire first round of AP and MP just looking for the baddies and I never get to use her stealth Melee skill. That skill is not useful to me unless she can actually use it without having to run 9 spaces to surprise someone. In general, it would be a great thing to me if upon winning the surprise initiative roll we could see at least one bad guy.
I'm always roleplaying in my head "hold it guys, there are bad guys here." Everyone Draws weapons and ready spells. "Where?" "I dunno, lets sneak around until we find one and lose the element of surprise!"

Do you mean Selen and her Steel and Shadow? Tam can't even hold melee weapons any more. Steel and Shadow is due for a rework, probably more like Juggernaut last I heard. In the meantime a respec may be recommended if available to you.

Just read your other thread post... I haven't played the new talents gained in ep. 4... is Tam given a melee talent again?

Er, the melee girl that can do both melee and archery. Yah. I guess that's Selen, the redhead/armor girl. My bad. I'll edit my previous post.
I actually didn't put any points into Steel and Shadow because I knew that it would be an issue. So no real need to respec. I do get irritated by having to hunt around even to use my ranged weapons. When I am playing the actual tamilin, it's still hard to get the jump on people with her ranged stealth crit talent because she's always so far away from the bad guys. I usually fan-out my party until they spy one and then I'll regroup to use what's left of my AP on ranged attacks. A melee stealth attack needs to be able to be close when surprise happens.

Far sight/sly look and/or spirit sight (Kjartan's) are perfect for scouting... You can sly look level 4 for no ap costs on surprise rounds before spending ap/mp... still costs sp. Going higher levels is not as talent point efficient, but you can get bigger areas and more importantly, longer ranged. Also DoS/BN are highly useful for their mp and stealth to deal with the range issue a bit - of course +mp gear.
