Announcing release 4.0.5 to the Android Marketplace. It's the first time that I've seen an update in the marketplace BEFORE an announcement in the forums! According to the release notes on the Android site: v4.0.5 - 10/26/2011 * Cross Fade Game Music * Improved Game Performance * New Boarding Combat Results * Improved Combat AI for Merchants * Better Combat Performance * More Water Fuel on Merchant Ships * Improved 4.0 Combat System (v4.1?) Download and enjoy! <edit> PS ... hope you don't mind me announcing the update Cory - it's normally something that you do but (a), I was just so excited about seeing a new update, and (b) had always had a secret desire to do an announcement such as this </edit>

One of those things when you come back to a browser and you see a completed post with no button pushed.
Thanks for posting it -- you just keep taking work off my list and that helps so much.
Thanks again, Slayer

My only wish, currently, . ... . that the uninstall button wasn't so near the update button in the Market my droid shows me.
*deep sigh*
On the other hand, I now get to work on rebuilding all my favorite characters again! Yay. </sarcasm>
Not your fault Cory, mostly just needed to vent somewhere. Thanks for listening.
-abs is feeling "Mighty Stoopid" right about now.....

Ack ... it's a shame that ST RPG doesn't leave the character files intact on the device but that's what you get when you have zero privileges enabled. Funnily enough, I was actually wondering how I would go about resetting all the unlocks because part of me wants that challenge again.
Regarding the initial issue, Cory - is it really too difficult to change the game to support saving to SD cards? One possible solution (admittedly a little sucky in implementation) is to create a new save type (SD Captain). You would then need to create the ability to import legacy captains to SD Captains in the game roster (very similar to importing captains from Free to Elite). The difference would be that the Legacy captains would automatically be deleted from the phone as part of the import process.
In the same logic, you should be able to "import" the unlocks to SD.
Just a thought - don't really know the mechanics of how the save details are held so it might not be possible.

Lol, yeah, seriously.
On the other hand it's really not that big a deal. Just a little "doh!" If you know what I mean.
And, on the positive side, redoing the unlocks should be interesting. I've already discovered some are harder than I remember. I've also found out that all my time playing on impossible makes the lower levels really feel like a cake-walk.
(I also happen to agree that the lack of onerous permissioning is one of the games strengths. Oddly, I even kind of feel like this its just the advanced version of "oh, crap, I just died.", which I like a lot as well.
All in all, it's really not the disaster for me that some would feel it was. But it did, at the time, royally make feel dumb. Thus the need to vent.

I do appreciate the need to vent - and it does inspire me to try it out when I am really bored one day <grin> it'd be like a new game all over again (except like you I've been spending lots of time on Impossible going back to Crazy should be a breath of fresh space-dust

The only thing stopping me from making "save to SD" is the terrible fear of permissions.
The only thing stopping me from making a second application that allows save to SD (for ST RPG) is Google Android OS laws.
Sucks, but that's how it is. Future games will be better.
