It'd be very useful, especially for new players, to improve the description of how ship design elements contribute to attack/defense in the Ship Designer.
One approach would be a button-activated pop-up-screen in the Ship Designer that summarized the contribution of various ship elements to attack/defense stats. It might look something like the section between the lines below. (please excuse errors or omissions. The assignment of weak/strong is fictional and probably wrong.) _________________ Ship Design and Attack/Defense Statistics The equations below show which ship design elements contribute to each type of attack and defense. The parenthetical indicates whether a given element contributes strong or weak dice. Gun Attack: Gun decks (weak) + Pilot (weak) + Gun (Strong) + Weapon bonus (Strong) + Upgrade bonus (Strong) Gun Defense: Evasion (weak) + Pilot (Strong)... Boarding: ... Torp Attack: ... Torp Defense: ... Invasion: ...______
This static display would make contribution of each element very clear. From my naive perspective, the above approach seems relatively easy to implement.
If resources were no issue, it'd be even better to have a dynamic display of equations showing the contributions of each element for the ship being designed, similar to the equations shown in the level-up screens in Templar Battleforce.

An excellent idea.

Thanks, the seed of this idea has been bouncing around my head ever since I played Battleforce last year, and finally crystallized yesterday.
If implemented, it'll be interesting to see which version you go with--static or dynamic.
I hate to distract you from an ST4X upgrade, but the HoS folks might like something like this too.

We'd probably do something exactly like BF.
