achilles73 - I agree with Cory Trese, maximizing score on the first playthrough is probably going to be frustrating. There are many points in this game that can kill you easily if you don't know what is coming. There are also points that can kill you with just plain bad luck, you do nothing wrong, just the way the dice roll. The TB motto is correct, they make challenging games. I really enjoy the story of HoS, it is grand and I encourage you to go through and enjoy the story. Die a few times, it's ok (especially act 1, those Ratkin can hit hard and there are many tricky fights). After you encounter everything the game has then start formulating strategies to ironman through if that is your goal. About potions, no it does not lower your score. As long as your total purchases does not cause your endgame money to dip below 500,000 then anything you buy has no impact. Also, use potions. They are a great resource and I was hoarding them the first time through for no reason. They are there to use.

The main frustration for me is not dying at all; I haven't come close to dying in this run (I am only at normal level). It's navigation and finding places in general. The game feels a bit like Xulima in terms of difficulty of finding places (esp. with hidden doors), except Xulima has a mini-map and numbered coordinates...

achilles73 I think you are worried about finding 100% of everything. Try to just go through and enjoy the game. I assure you that missing secret doors will not affect your team. Most of the time they have a single chest with random loot in it and that is it. Also there is an episode guide to help you navigate the game. In act 1 it's pretty linear (some optional stuff but it should be obvious) and you just go to each map and explore and clear everything. Also my walkthrough has the name of every map in Episode 1 where there are fights so you can look there if you think you missed something.

Indeed, I am an obsessive min-maxer who tend to be attracted to hardcore RPGs I am more worried about missing XP and being 2-3 levels lower when I hit end-game than missing loot, but if it's just a few chests, then I guess it won't be a huge deal. And it won't be so linear after episode 1? Uh oh - I am having a hard time figuring out where to go as is!
