So I've been enjoying the game quite a bit thus far. But I swear I have the hardest time trying to figure out how to build my commander. How do you guys build yours?
P.S. Currently mine is Sword and Shield with points in BW, WW, and 1 point in PN.

I go pistols, my favorite is to unlock Pistoleer Poisoner and equip with Heavy Needle Pistol (4 range, +42 Bio-Poison DMG) Talent wise Arc Fire, Pressing Need and Warriors Wrath get my points.
Void Armor and Twich Kit are on my must have list, other two are what I can fit point wise.
I'm not really into melee builds and love the Bio-Poison weapons combined with lots of MP. Above Captain will be paired with a Soldier armed with the Roavin MK9 (Relic) and 1-2 Scouts with Needle Cannon, Crippling Fire and Piercing Fire.

Okay created a forum account (I'm the OP), how do you allocated that stat wise? Str+Gun or Quick+Gun

Quickness maxed out, split my skills fairly evenly between all of them though Gunnery and Evasion are my initial focus and generally stay a point or two ahead of other 3.
Level 22 Captain (Brutal difficulty) Fortitude 5 Willpower 4 Focus 5 Strength 6 Quickness 16 Gunnery 10 Warrior 7 Tactics 6 Evasion 8 Grenades 6 Arc Fire 5 Precision Fire 4 Frag Grenade 4 Pressing Need 2 Warrior's Wrath 1 Slash 1 Void Armor Heavy Needle Pistol Heavy Warblade (need more Gear points to equip better blade) Watchdog Whisper Twitch Kit

I build my captain as a melee powerhouse.
As for stats, I focus on Fortitude, strength, and willpower (in that order) As for skills, I focus on warrior Talents go two ways, in the early game I'll focus on a simple combo of slash and frag grenades and in the late game I'll go blade weave and one supplementary skill (for instance, pressing need) Gear is pretty much focused on survivability, so I focus on boosting deflection, auto-block, and armor (in that order).
I find deflection to be key for my melee builds, so that's pretty much the name of the game for my captain. I regularly get him close to 100% which means that most hits are only for single digit damage. When he's sitting pretty at 200+ HP, 5 damage is nothing!

I built him as a melee warrior in my last run through. I used Denounce, Bladeweave, Commander's Confidence, Frag Grenades and Warrior's Wrath. For equipment, I would focus on shield and armor followed by blade and auxiliary systems.
For Attributes, I focused on Strength, Focus, and Fortitude, with a few points in the others. For Skills, it was Warrior, Tactics, Evasion and Grenades.

The design of BF is such that Level 10 Talents don't increase in Heat cost (where in HoS, SP cost increases with level.)
Because of this, higher level talents are more valuable. It pays to max out Bladeweave, but I like the combination of Denounce, Bladeweave, Grenades, Wrath. That's a go-to late game melee build.
Put on a high AB shield and a high CA weapon ... she's a tank!

Yup, in HoS you had to play a more balanced game of trying to balance SP cost with talent level, whereas in BF you just get to go hog wild and do whatever you want. Both have their merits, but I absolutely love BF!
Bladeweave is my go-to skill for my captain, I'll usually dump a couple talent points in it, but I'll usually go with pressing need instead of wrath. I love the extra defense that it gives!
Grenades are, for me, an early/mid game "still working the kinks out of my build" kind of talent, although I can definitely see how they'd be worthy of investment later in the game.
