Finally broke my 1m cherry as a Merchant. I have TP with every faction and a rank 1 military with all as well. That being said, is it worth going past 20 in negotiation?

Fourth Horseman congrats! Was that in a single trade or was is your bank balance after your trade? You don't necessarily need to go past level 20 in negotiation - for me, it would be more beneficial to you investing in Pilot/Tactics once you got negotiation up to 20. Then again, I haven't done the merchant captain yet. I rely heavily on shortage rumors and large stockpiles of cached goods instead of high negotiation skill

Negotiation scales the same as Tactics and Pilot. If you're trading enough, higher skill will always benefit.
However, Pilot and Tactics will help you avoid encounters when you have a full Cargo Hold, so keeping that in mind ... up to you =)
20 isn't a magical limit.

You can be too effective at negotiation - it's still a law of diminishing returns because you'll never get a situation where people will pay you more to buy something than they will to sell. Once you get a buy rate of 401 and a sell rate of 400, you're gonna struggle getting much more benefit right? Yes, you can shorten timeframes for large sell/buy activities ... and no, 20 is an arbitrary value, and is not a magical point at which equations change dramatically

All I'm doing is trading. I have a TP with everyone so I just pay attention to embargoes and spy wars. I mainly stay up on the NW quadrant to avoid any xeno and if I there I won't carry artifacts. Currently my pilot is double my level and I still use a fast/quick ship (Honor of Thulun) in case I come across an Indy pirate.

With the Honor of Thulun, specced with additional cargo hold, wf tank, etc, you should be able to get comfortable results with a shortage. A full cargo of metal in a shortage should get you over 100k. A full load of artifacts in shortage could get you as much as 200k or more With a bigger ship, more storage capacity, and an ability to react quickly with cached stock, you can sometimes get close to $1m in a single trade. Possible? Yeah, with a cargo hold of 216, carrying full Artifacts, and selling around $4,600, you'll be pretty much there! Check out the Devaltos Flag Ship for a great hauler. Alternatively, with the right unlocks, you can get a designer ship to spec pretty easily. One thing that I noticed (not sure if it's changed)... if you apply the 20% cargo upgrade, do it after you've upgraded all of the other cargo upgrade slots. From what I remember, the 20% upgrade occurs with your current cargo hold size. Any additional cargo hold upgrades just add that exact amount (eg +8 cargo adds +8 only).

Should we make an Award for 1m credits?

Are we talking about an award for a single transaction? In that case I think that $500k in a single action is enough of a challenge (and requires a purposeful selection of ship, cargo, and the like). 1M is a little excessive. Then again, you did make a challenge of 350 freaking contracts, which to be honest, was a painful grind You also had 1117 battles, which was also long in achieving. Why 1117 BTW? So ... $100k in a single transaction, $250k in a single transaction, and $500k in a single transaction. That should be achievable with effort

There is a legend that Shalun boarded a Guild Battlestation, alone, at peak of the Hokaat Engagement and defeated a crew of 1117.
Thus the number takes on a legendary meaning in the "Fist of Shalun"
