I like the idea that when capturing an enemy ship, you could also get map data from it's computer.

Yeah, guess I got a little off the main question with my post there, sorry Cory. I'd be way happy with this: - IF the player has knowledge of the gate/system he/she is supposed to be going to, but no knowledge of the space in between, a straight line route is plotted (does not consider green/red squares)
- IF the player has knowledge of the gate/system he/she is supposed to be going to AND knowledge of the interceding space, a fuel efficient course is plotted.
- IF the player has no knowledge of the gate/system he/she is supposed to be going to, no course can be plotted and manual exploration is necessary.
