Hi, what is the difference between evasion and dodge?
I have 2 armors for Tamilin. 1) Banded Sheathe: 48 Armor, +6 Evasion, +5 Stealth 2) Featherweight Scale: 26 Armor, +4 Evasion, +2 Stealth (Bonus +2 Ranged Accuracy, +2 Dodge, +4 Stealth)
One has +6 Evasion, the other has +4 Evasion and +2 Dodge.
Just for defensive purposes (ignoring armor values), are they the same? Or dodge on armor is generally better?
Also, does the bonus of +2 dodge acts in the same way as a normal +2 dodge gear (eg. +2 dodge ring)?

Hello and welcome! "Just for defensive purposes (ignoring armor values), are they the same?"No, they are not they and I shall try and explain it to you. (In the example I will use Tamilin) How to avoid melee attack: (throwing knives skill)+(parry)+(dodge) How to avoid physical ranged attacks: (Evasion)+(dexterity)+(dodge) How to avoid spell attacks: (Evasion)+(dodge)+(knowledge) "Or dodge on armor is generally better?"
Bingo! As the example shows dodge is used to avoid any type of attack and therefore is the best stat for avoidance. "Also, does the bonus of +2 dodge acts in the same way as a normal +2 dodge gear (eg. +2 dodge ring)?"
Yes, they act in the same way. I do recommend taking a look at: startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/6711/combat-mechanics this will explain a lot of things and might give you a better understanding of the game mechanics. If you have anymore questions do not hesitate to ask! With kind regards, Rashar.

mlw - from the combat mechanics thread that Rashar posted, the following two lists are really important. They show the Strong Dice and Standard Dice break down for defenders for each type of attack. As both Dodge bonuses from magical gear or Buffs (the +2 Dodge on your armor) and Evasion are Strong Dice, they are equivalent in the roll against Ranged / Magical attacks. The Dodge dice are rolled as Standard Dice against Melee Attacks, so they are switch hitters. If you are more worried about getting tagged by Range than Melee, I would highly prefer the +6 Evasion armor. If you're in melee alot, consider the +2 Dodge. Of course, the higher armor value is a winning stat too! And, yes, the +2 Dodge from the Armor acts just like +2 Dodge from a ring. Strong Dice for Defender- (Melee) Parry from Weapon & Shield - (Melee) Any Parry bonuses from gear/buffs - (Ranged/Magic) Evasion from Armor - (Ranged/Magic) Any Dodge bonuses from gear /buffs Standard Dice for Defender- (Melee) Dodge including any Dodge bonuses from gear / buffs - (Melee) Skill with primary melee weapon - (Ranged/Magic) Dodge (unmodified combat stat) - (Ranged) Dexterity - (Magic) Knowledge

Thanks, Rashar and fallen. So for ranged defense, evasion and dodge are the same. But, can you explain this "If you are more worried about getting tagged by Range than Melee, I would highly prefer the +6 Evasion armor." Are you saying evasion is better than dodge for ranged defense? +6 evasion > +4 evasion & +2 dodge?

Are you saying evasion is better than dodge for ranged defense? +6 evasion > +4 evasion & +2 dodge? Sorry, my bad. +6 Evasino and +4 Evasion / +2 Dodge are the same for ranged.

Are you saying evasion is better than dodge for ranged defense? +6 evasion > +4 evasion & +2 dodge? The deciding factor there from a defensive standpoint would be the higher Armor value not the Evasion vs Evasion+Dodge which equal the same chance at avoiding ranged attacks. Now depending on your characters build the other bonuses might be more important to you then just avoiding/soaking ranged attacks.
