It started off a mediocre crazy merchant run until I took an expensive contract to the bottom right of the map. While there I discovered a cadar world where Spice
can be sold for a fairly expensive price. Literally 3 green squares away was a rychart world where I'm convinced they manufactured the stuff. This planet sold
the spice for a far cheaper cost than the cadar world so; I kid you not for around a decade I did nothing but sell spice. Then, later I found a seemingly never ending electronics shortage where I poured electronics from the
surrounding worlds. Due to pos rep with all factions + and massive cargo upgrades to the nequitam erro I am virtually untouchable. Nice now I'm level 18 with massive rep across all
factions. I have a political and a tradesman officer so no accidental banned trades will happen. I have 1.3 mil banked and the potential for much much more sweet
creds. Also, because I'm not an idiot and a clean merchant i wont trade in artifacts, nor travel red space. Due to this the xenos menace wont get me. Glory to DeValtos!
edit I forgot that I'm playing legit too. even though I have the all unlocks purchased on another account, this captain is running completely on merit.

Beware the Xeno, for they stalk all who ply the stars.

Beware the Xeno, for they stalk all who ply the stars. Even if I completely avoid red space, dead worlds and artifacts?

Leave those filthy Xenos in my waterfuel wake. Edit I forgot to say I've cranked Stealth up really high, that also protects me I guess.

Yes, Stealth is your friend on this build. Avoiding Red and Dead is your best bet to hold off your first Xeno encounter.
Part of the problem with running a decade of short Spice trades is that you generated XP much slower than you were burning turns, which may have put your Stealth rate behind Game Level.
Every turn you use brings the Xeno encounter rate higher, ever so slightly ... inching ever closer to the darkness ...

I neglected negotiation because of my high rep, and poured it all into stealth and pilot. My stealth is something like 1,5 my game level atm.

Your game level? or character level? Those are different things -- game level is determined by turns and game difficulty.
By neglecting Negotiate, you're burning Turns WAY faster doing all those buy-sell cycles which puts you behind even faster.

I wasn't trying to rain your parade, it sounds like you got off to a great start. I just didn't want the follow up post to be "got ganked by Xeno, wtf" ... knowledge is power and all that. What turn is the game on when you're level 18? You could be doing fine, I am only providing background info.

In reality I've had successful runs before; iirc the only thing that makes this different is the difficulty. I've had runs where I get crit on by Indy pirates and slaughtered by xenos whilst I trade in ancient artifacts. As some wonderful spacer so aptly put it ; the song of death sings for all those who walk the void.

Do you have an escape shuttle? Build a few backup ships?

Spaking of xeno, are the xeno in ST2 going to be as powerful and difficult to destroy as they seem to be in ST1, or more manageable ie. ST4x and BF?

They will play a similar role in ST2 as they do in ST RPG. Your Crew and ship are not Templar ships -- you are playing the invisible ships in ST 4X, ones we assume die in droves trying to refuel your warships. It isn't that the Xeno are more manageable in 4X or BF -- it is that the force you're controlling is far more powerful than the independent Star Trader. Think about the BF levels where you have humans instead of Templars ... the Xeno aren't easy to defeat there!
