So, for previous Alphas, it's been said our job will be to try and break as much as possible. Let's use this opportunity to plan exactly how we will bring this Jenga tower of code down!
I will try my hardest to break torpedo combat, because it needs to be perfect for the obviously superior Cadar military!

I want to break trading, find out how it can get manipulated in ridiculous ways. We have to have a solid, fair but challenging trade simulator this is Star TRADERS after all. Also want to break the ship designer/upgrades because we all love to tinker and want great ships. Finally MUST repeatedly break the Character generation for Captain, Officers and Crew! I love me some RPG action and that starts with awesome characters.

I'll break the Cadar by selling as many hot dog and toiletry products as possible

I'm going to go combat and war, most likely, so I'm gonna wreck me some small craft and boarding mechanics

I want to try and break the procedurally generated map Is it technically almost infinite, or just a set number of quadrants that are generated?

bookworm21 - when you generate a new map, you will pick the number of Quadrants you want in the game. There will be some upper limit, and I wouldn't be surprised it if was less than 100. That is still going to generate a map so large it would be monumental task to explore. ... but not No Man's Sky. Too much focus can be put on endless map gen, we've put more of our emphasis on good systems in the game (politics, explore, combat, trading, etc) and avoided obsessing over "infinite map" possibilities. Infinite different maps, yes. Maps of infinite size, no.

fallen that sounds epic Not much point having an 'infinite map' if it's all the same gameplay-wise. A map of say, 20 quadrants strikes a good balance between spaciousness and also being able to revisit places and establish trade routes. Is there going to be a fog-of-war style map system, where you have to go there to discover anything? Or purchase star charts, which could give varying amounts of detail based on their price (so there may be uncharted planets and other hidden stuff to find). I sense an explorer challenge of 'who can find the names for systems/planets/cities they submitted first' coming on

There will be a fog of war style map system within each quadrant.
The captain will have automatic access to a star chart, so they'll know of known planets and hyperwarp routes.
There will, however, be a lot of exploration mechanics, finding hidden planets and events within the fog.

Putting it out there early-- will there be an auto-register within the FoW mechanics? After 4X, this is something that I think needs to be in the game...
Also, will there be a way to increase the amount of FoW cleared around the ship? Sensors, for example... The amount of FoW cleared in the last three games has always seemed far too small, and with the perceived scope of ST2, it seems that this would be a concern, at least for me.
