I'm going to try to be an Explorer, as I reallly want to see the new mechanics behind it.

Assuming it's anything like before, I will go with captain. I always get a good start from that class.

Captain is basically f'up proof. He starts out high in quickness and he is an excellent manipulator of crew and star ports. I guess his marquee advantage is the 50% off pardons. Talk about safety. I'm surprised people don't sing the praises more often. Captain is a great class. You should build one.

Military Officer most likely, though ST2 Captains might be vastly different from the ST ones as far as abilities and such.

I'm most likely going to run as a dedicated merchant my first time around. After all, the name of the game IS Star Traders, haha.

I am highly skilled and can manage to Torp myself in the foot regardless of the class. Pirate myself.

Space Pirates has a major flaw: it isn't made by The Trese Brothers.

My first character will be a dual-class Bounty Hunter / Spy with a specialization in Light Firearms. I'll build for Evasion and Damage, rather than Fortitude and Armor.
I'll use my Spy abilities to maximize the impact of my Death Warrant and Bounty Hunter specials. A small ship, use the small craft bay for an Escape Shuttle. My officers will each have one specialization -- the first, Torpedoes and Navigation. The second, Gunnery and Pilot.
Contrary to common wisdom, my Captain will lead all boarding combat himself.

Please please tell us this isn't just you making a joke! Love the idea of being able to make "dual class" Captains where we can better tailor them to fit our concept for a character instead of sort of locking them into a set stereotype.

xdesperado - uh no, that is a serious description of an ST2 build. All smiles but no jokes

No, none of that is a joke.
Thus far this seems to be my favorite build -- mostly because those features are in place where things like Explorer aren't yet ready to be run as builds.
We've talked a bit about the Job system we're using in KickStarter updates, but it is very flexible. There are unique differences between a Bounty Hunter/Spy and a Spy/Bounty Hunter. I don't think the profession system in Star Traders RPG, or actually any of our RPG, lock character concepts in any more than is required for the game to be fun.
