I know this game is probably the lowest priority ever for you two, but still the same, it is my first love. I haven't played it in well over a year now, and I have a few things that would bring some necessary improvements, at least for me anyway.
- We need more pictures/captains to pick from pretty badly. Six characters seems like not nearly enough, especially when there isn't anyone sporting a massive beard.
- I would love to see a new class or two added at some point. Something akin to the Explorer from ST would be great. The biggest untapped resource in the game IMO is the massive amount of islands to explore. Having a class to exploit this and build around it would bring SO MUCH fun to the game, and would be a most welcome addition.
- Still more diversity in ship types, or bring improvements to many existing ships. There are just so many ships that are pure junk, and maybe 4-6 optimal ships for each stage of the game. While there is a ton of different ships in the game, having so few viable options makes each game progress very similarly. That's my take on it, take it for what it's worth-- I only see what I run into in each game.
- I would like to see the requirement for promotion-necessary upgrades disappear for the Trade Companies and Pirate towns. Either have the high-quality upgrades be restricted to Ruesland, Cadari, and Kaihmer, or make them twice as expensive at the trading companies/pirate towns, but let them always be available, not "restricted to captains with promotions (or whatever it says)"
- The ships are straight up lightning rods. If you're in a stormy map square, you will be knocked for scores of silver just in repairing your masts. I would rather have my sails get shredded more frequently than to have the masts getting whacked every 15 squares. I know you can keep timber to repair them on the fly, but this requires a high level of points invested in Commanding(?) just to have a 50-50 chance at making the save.
- Faction/Rank ships. Exactly what it sounds like-- You hit a severe cap once you get your Heavy Schooner, War/Naval Galleon, Man o' War. Seriously these are the best ships you can get in the game and I feel like there is so much more room to go up. Once you get the Heavy Schooner/Galleon of your choice and upgrade it, you can just begin a new game-- there is nothing better to strive for. Having Ranked ships would provide something for the high level characters to work for, and give the player a goal from the get-go.
- In the same vein as above, we desperately need higher level ships to work for. I always envision the legendary ships you fight in Black Flag-- these are the absolute pinnacle of what I want in a ship. These things have 60+ cannons per side, what looks like a full square mile of sails rigged up to them, and must take a crew of a hundred to man. I would love to see some ships of this type, even if they are stupid rare, which is where I think the Faction ships would come in.
I'll think of more, and post them below. Thanks for hearing me out as always. I have fallen in love all over again with AoP, and really wish that it could get some love, if you could ever find the time
