Yes you can play on the highest difficulty without using runners at all. Just say no when someone offers to help, but it can have side effects. Don't rehire Clive afters he leaves you. You just have to be extra careful how you play.

Runners are a double edged sword in CK. For people that like to build a team, they're great to have but cost a lot in money, time, and supplies to train them and keep them alive. It sucks when you lose a team mate that you spent so much time on only to have them killed by an unlucky roll or stupid mistake on your part. This game is really good and once you get the hang of it, lone wolfing the higher difficulties becomes a doable style of play.

Yeah the dogs are strong. ~15k and they are pretty much unstoppable even when they are fresh, with lvl 2 implant, nano ready 6/6 armor and new teeth. They sure hit more often than Clive, too, or maybe I just have bad luck with him

I don't know if I've met Clive before. Maybe I have and just ignored him ... I usually have 1 runner and a dog. Cyberswords are useless for me - I don't like having to do melee only attacks. It's like my ST play style - gun-bunny ... the dog is my torp, and chomps a lot of chummers.
