Oh. So the Xenos were manipulating humanx-kind into destroying themselves, and Shalun and the Templars freed the people from that control, minus the Guild who are basically Xeno slaves. Close. The Narvidians were the ones controlling the Guild. The Guild's technological back bone was built off of "dormant" Narv tech. The Narvidians were able to hijack the Guild from the inside and begin subjugation of the Star Traders and extermination of humans who were found to be unnecessary or resiting. Oh, so THAT'S why TBs won't add a Xeno line of upgrades. You'd automatically wind up a Narv slave and lose. I think what Brutus Aurelius was trying to say was that Narvs and Xenos are different things. Although I have to say, getting forbidden ship upgrades and becoming an unwitting pawn of the Narvidians sounds like it could be fun.

Er, wut? So then what's a Narvidian, if not an Alien / Xeno?

The Xeno are playing checkers while the Narvs are playing chess. All the Xeno want is to expand and eradicate. The Narvidians are looking for subservience and domination. How I see it, anyway, feel free to correct me

How I see it, anyway, feel free to correct me I think you could say the Narvidians are playing chess, and the xeno want to eat or destroy everything Can't wait to publish the ST2 Lore PDF from the KickStarter!

Fun lore discussion.
So the Narvidians are aliens, in the sense of not being human. But, they are a different species, culture, society of aliens from the other Xeno. And, the Narvidians are the most advanced.
Are the other Xeno--Nyktos, Bolish, etcetera--all distinct speicies, cultures and societies?

Xeno summarizes a wide swathe of alien races that share a common root of xenobiology. Narvidians do not share that root, coming from a different source. As great manipulators, Narvidians have shown that they can manipulate xenobiology genetics to their purposes at times.

All of the other Xeno species are like different variations of a hive insect. Some of them are warriors, others are drones, some exist to terraform and seed worlds for the Xeno. The Xeno hive biology is very diverse and at the time of Star Traders RPG, highly dysfunctional. Narvidian society is likewise in disarray -- both are husks of what they were when they were in their prime (hundreds of thousands of years ago.)

So, mayhaps we should try to categorize the Xeno by roles in the overall hive structure.
Terrorox: The original strain perhaps? Definitely drones that can do various tasks that the others could, but not as well.
Red Zorga: As the fastest, the seem to be scouts and Explorers.
Zenga: Harvesters and resource gatherers, as per their fluff entry.
Nyktos: Specialist soldier caste?
Bollish: Warrior-Drones, based on their ability to produce tons of warships that are relatively weak

I can get a vague image of how Xeno society once worked, but I wonder how the Narvidian society would be organized in its prime. I can't think of anything to base a guess off of. Also, you do realize you guys NEED to make a game set in that time period. Just imagine, fleets of ships as numerous as the stars themselves! Humanity unified against the organized Xeno and Narv threats! However did humans survive?

Humans were still crawling out of the caves when the Narvs and Xeno were at their height and the Alfaan and Xarth were at each other's throats.

I've often wondered what those names meant. I assumed they were probably human factions. According to the Brothers Trese, the Alfaan are energy beings that live in the Hyperwarp, the dimension used for long distance FTL, and they created the Xeno to fight the Xarth. The Xarth are reptilian aliens that created the Narvidians to help them strategize and create new weapons of war to destroy the Alfaan.
