Hi, I thought I'd share my favourite fighter builds early game. The combo is very destructive. 2x Fighters to 1x Assault Fighter. I will typically add a refuelling ship to the squad when available, focused on torps.

giddion - very nice! Great post. Cool to see that you've including the Sector Scanning Training for both. What is the final cost for either?

Not cheap, but extremly effective at stopping the wave of Xeno.

Oh wow, those are very pricey! But, I guess they are powerful so you don't need too many, especially with a Repair / Refuel ship to back them up. With that price, worth investing in a Carrier.

With that price, worth investing in a Carrier. yep, but the carrier is a bit later in the tree. So, it is gorrilla tactics, in and out. Draw them into the green zone and strike, never push outside of green zone except for world killers. Else the repair and refuel times hurt. But the fighter is very effective with only the basic barrage, which is free, the weapon (1AP) gets two attacks so it is actually doing more damage than a 2AP weapon that is more expensive on mass.
