I have a world that is in dire straits, what should I build or do to make this world viable or go over to the independants. Currently it is a drain on the empire.

More hab units. Delete the Mine. Upgrade everything necessary to have Habs = Population.
Run Festivals to increase Moral to 10.
Build 0 Quality (Orbital) upgrades.

Doing as you say will just increase the maintenance costs without producing any income. Effectivly the world is a burden.

Ok... The problem is the pop keeps growing. Here we are now. Starport is the next upgrade I guess... Seem like a maintenance nightmare doing that. I cannot see how this can even become remotly profitably.

giddion - right now, you are hosed because Morale is 1. But the colony now has the stats to have 10 Morale. That would greatly reduce the Maintenance rate and this colony would now make money

ok I am getting closer. morale is an issue. i will start some festivals to raise it. But I cannot grow HABs until I get the tech, which is some way away, and I need to focus some effort on my combat initiative. I still think it would be better to leave this to the independants, but they never want any of my planets.

giddion - but it now looks like a very healthy planet, even though small. A little more Orbital and a little more Hab tech and you've got a small gem.

giddionWhat I would recommend now is installing an Orbital platform to replace one of the Hab Units. The you could build a Palace, which would help provide Spice, Research, EP and Defense, improving this already productive world into one that will never be much of a problem. I once had a world like this during the Alpha, and it grew into a sector powerhouse in Mining, with enough Factory potential to pump out some Fighters if the sector defense fleet needed reinforcements.

Brutus Aurelius - agreed, in a well-managed empire, these types of worlds are really awesome. The right Planetary Construction tech can turn them from moderately profitable (as seen now) to powerhouses.

I would point out that later you get teraformers that improve max ql while takeing 0 quality.

I would point out that later you get teraformers that improve max ql while takeing 0 quality. That is true. And the ROI on Terraforming on low-quality worlds is higher than it is on quality 20.
