Coming back to BF from playing a lot of XCOM:EW recently had really got me thinking - there isn't really a lot of mission variety beyond 'kill all the aliens', 'capture this guy' and 'protect this thingy'.
And then I go back to BF where the variety in both objectives and map design is so huge and it is really refreshing to not do the same mission over and over again.
Add this to the branching deployment campaigns and you have something truly incredible.
I was so glad I wasn't playing Ironman after I squished my captain in an airlock door while desperately trying to stop the flood of xeno coming through. On my second attempt I tried a different approach of not closing the doors behind me and using my two soldiers and Neptune to cover all angles with over watch as the squad moved down the left side.
The tactical options in your missions are fantastic.

You haven't played Battleforce until you've accidentally squished part of your squad with doors.

The all mighty doors! Just closing them causes xenos to explode in fear when they're on the wrong side

You haven't played Battleforce until you've accidentally squished part of your squad with doors. I did break my personal 'no abort' rule when I then proceeded to immediately squash half of my squad on the way in to Tundeer... One of these days eh?

Imagine the horror, I have so squish Templars every release to test that part of the engine. It is one of the most painful tests I have. Letting a Xeno kill a Templar isn't, but the door thing is worse because I have to actually pull the trigger
