I was going to Darkmoss Heart to see the Druid, when i meet the weaver men. The first several acted with melee fighter, then two of them range shot Kjatan and did him in.
The request is when review an enemy, to be able to see if it does a range attach or melee attach.

If monsters have different attacks, they are visually different. You just have to learn, which is which. And heroes tell you that gloss spiders shoot webs.

What anrdaemon says is correct, and is specifically how we designed Heroes of Steel RPG to work. The split between special attacks and normal attacks is intentional -- in fact, the game calls them "Monster Talents" internally. When you view the details on a HoS monster, you see all the of the information about the monster's basic attack. Monsters may have multiple, hidden, special attacks. This includes unique melee attacks, additional ranged attacks, debuffing abilities or summons. Those Monster Talents are fixed to the monster's class and the monster's controlling AI decides when it is best to use a Talent or make a regular Monster Attack. Hopefully that clears it up.

Do monsters have a limited sp pool, and can they be drained dry with sp drain to prevent monster talents from being used?

Eh… Would've been an interesting tactics. And a totally different AI. I like the cool down system they use today.

They use a cooldown system (I assume this means they can't curse 2 rounds in a row or something along those lines)? I have never noticed...

I wouldn't say it is that simple, you'll see enemies using talents twice in a row. The bottom line -- they do not use an SP system, and while they are on cooldown some turns, they never "run out" of power to use their Talents.

If you ever do show the extra moster info through an assassin talent, far sight or scoll, whatever, that would be valuable tactical info. I understand it maybe needs to wait for Legends or something since that's what you mentioned in the other thread.

They will get bored casting the same spell after a number of times, and try something else. Not that it saves them, but at least they will die entertained.

The AI definitely tries to use it's abilities to win, but rarely (according to our data from players) does
