Gunnery officer could be spiced up to the max - making him extremely twitchy but able to react and adjust in nano-seconds. Of course, the gunnery officer can't play poker due to the fact that he often gets over-excited with a good hand and would likely accidentally shoot someone if it weren't for a hastily decreed ship rule that no-one is able to carry weapons with them unless General Quarters is sounded.

Or, and this is just a random idea, maybe electronics. He uses them as sensors and the like, boosting up his gunnery station in order to eek every iota of performance out of the ship's systems?
What are the buffs for the other officers in the notes?

Spice is also used by pilots. Electronics could also be an option - I discounted guns because the gunnery officer may be a card carrying member of the NRA, (Newtonian Rockets Association), but having guns in the hold won't make him target any better.

Yeah, hard to decide what would be a good item for him to use. Spice or electronics seem likely.
Or you could use plants, he could like to make a little garden around his station in order to get in the zone, haha.

Electronics seems logical. Or Chemicals maybe. (depending if barrage guns are chemically propelled or electro-magnetic)
