I know in the Elite Version you can play as independent, but there's not any difference from that than being in a faction. Could there be like some sort of differences if you choose to be independent? I normally choose to be them, but it'd be cool if there were differences between being in a faction, or an independent captain.

Choosing Independent allows you to buy Combat and Armament Upgrades from Independent stardocks. If you choose a non-indy faction the only way to get those is to have a military rank and buy it from a faction world, so there is one difference already in the game.

Zer0Winds - np at all! We're happy to help, and we do agree -- way more differences would be fun. Star Traders 2 will remedy

Independents also don't lose morale when fighting Independents.

Just went back through the code, looks like there are about 25 differences when playing an Independent. It is at least, if not more, complex a set of rules than playing a Faction.
Hopefully that helps clear it up for ST RPG while we work on ST2

It would be nice if the help file at least hinted at some of the differences. Or is it already buried in there but I just haven't noticed it yet?
I'd like to play a completely indy captain one of these days, just to get a feel for what it's like.
