I came across an independent MO. Story-wise, was it just an officer for the specific planet I was patrolling around, or was that just some bug? Either way, I was an independent explorer, patrolling looking for an independent merchant to conscript some crew. It even said something about me committing crimes, and it was hostile.

Story-wise, that Captain is working for the local security for (or is the local security force!)
Sounds like while you're an Indy, you treat them pretty bad. Don't expect them to be too friendly.
You also might have warrants and the Independent security forces won't hesitate to make a credit or two off a bounty.

Nothing wrong with warships! Simply observe the proper protocols of Loot, slave, and sell and you'll be just fine. Don't forget to offer everyone you meet the standard Cadar greeting.

Standard Cadar greeting is, of course, a press of the first one. Followed by celebratory vudka. Unless they get the buttons mixed up. "Stupid machine! Why isn't it serving the vudka-" *multiple explosions and flying debris can be seen on the forward viewscreens* "...oh. Oops." |

There are actually 3 things, two buttons and a lever. The lever serves spice biscuits and tea.

Well my question is, can you play an Indy MO? Does that even make any sense? I.e., if you create a new captain, select initial profession as MO, and initial faction as Independent. Unless the assumption is, of course, that you only start out as an indy and eventually find a Faction to work for. Is it possible to play an in-character MO that's indy?

Quite. Pick a place or places. Defend it with your last breath if necessary. Congratulations. You're a self-made MO of that place, defender against ...anything you don't want on your planet, or in your sector of space.

Become that planet's security force. Defend against pirates and De Valtos. I don't like the De Valtos... boom. That basically it? There you go. Also take contracts for the people of that planet. Ignore the fact their warships will still attack you while you patrol.

I'm pretty sure even the De Valtos themselves don't like there fellow DV members, Zer0Winds . They just use each other for profit, and I should know, considering my most successful captains tend to be DV merchants. |

You're a De Valtos?! I'm surrounded.... damn it... My only allies are the Steel Song Clan... and Clan Javat.... and house of Thulun...and Syndicate Rychart doesn't really have an opinion of me, we tend to watch each other closely, to see if the other will betray them... and Cadar is allied with De Valtos, so, they're my enemy... huh, now that I think about it, only De Valtos and Cadar hate me!
When did this go from a topic of independent Military officers to De Valtos?
