So I was looking at that map by Fenikso (sorry if I spelt your name wrong!) And I found the Hyperion Demonic Nebulae... so, I went there, to check it out... And I'm confused. Nothing has happened or anything. So, what are they?
EDIT: While down there, I found the "Birth Space", in Steel Song territory. What's that too?

They're easter eggs and hidden secrets. The game is full of things like this.

Are they just easter eggs in the sense of being specially named, or do they actually have in-game effects? Rumor has it that the Hyperion Demonic Nebula is supposed to have a higher rate of Alien encounters, but so far I've had more success finding Aliens by trolling dead planets.

I was patrolling around the nebula, but I didn't turn up any aliens. Came across a De Valtos merchant, oddly enough... Yet another De Valtos down... still many, many more to go...

I see... aha! I just realized the truth is revealed! The De Valtos merchant there shows that they really ARE aliens... I knew it... well, yet another reason to destroy all their ships.

I thought that Captain himself is an Alien... I mean, have you seen what he's capable of when exploring? He can lose eyes, arms, fingers, legs, etc., on each expedition, yet he continues to walk among the crew. Just how many eyes/arms/fingers/legs does he have anyway?! Certainly more than any human being that I know of.

Plot twist: Captain's an android. How else do you lose that many body parts?

From what I heard, long time explorers become pretty much machine... (Almost like Raiden...) because they get new artificial limbs, machine stuff, so yes, they are a cyborg... sometimes near complete machine.
Though how do they lose so many parts... before leaving the planet...?

We will work on making the way this works more clear in ST2, and maybe get into it a bit for the Lore PDF exclusive for Kickstarter backers.
