Zhivago - agreed. We will definitely not be removing locks from the game! I will look at the Talents for unlocking again and see if we want to remove their ability to level.

I have proposed a solution where the Security Skill and these Talents boost range and Gold recovered.
That way leveling them up would be a trade off with the ability to purchase more gear.

Maybe you could add a chance to find a specialty item like moonstones bloodstones or flowers instead of money. The percentage would increase the higher the level

If Cory's proposal comes about, I wouldn't mind seeing a few judiciously spaced chests/doors that require the levels added sometime. Maybe with traps if the security roll fails.
It would make for an interesting bit to ironman players to eek out extra gold at the expense of risk to boot I imagine.

The gold drop boost does sound cool!

Sounds great! Definitely improving utility of underused skills will go a long way to improve the game. I think Security needs a boost just as much as unlock talents do.
Two questions, sorry if a little off-topic: 1) What do you guys do when a new update comes out that changes the game quite a bit? Do you have to restart with a new team, or do you just keep playing? Would you be missing out on much if you don't restart? 2) What is the ironman mode? I tried looking very hard but nobody anywhere actually explains the rules.

I'm trying to think the in-game explanation of how security and unlock levels would yield more gold, and the best I could come up with is, "A highly skilled thief knows how to find hidden compartments and not a single coin will be left behind."
Wizards could sense the same thing with their magic.
It probably ain't winning any fantasy world-building awards, but it's a sufficiently decent explanation to add the mechanic to the game I think.

Ironman refers to playing any given difficulty level with the objective of not dying. As soon as your party suffers its first death, the game becomes a non-Ironman run. NMI, for example, (Nightmare Ironman) refers to the very difficult task of playing Nightmare difficulty with the objective of not dying.

I think the brothers try very hard to avoid requirements of a new team. Sometimes there are definitely changes that will be more pronounced for a new team vs a late game team, but nothing game ending in my year or two of playing on and off.

Alas, no Kjartan finding more sp potions huh? - gold totally makes sense for sneaks...

I think Security needs a boost just as much as unlock talents do. But what would that be? Should it be still just for traps or for broader use? I know I'd like extra D first combat round, but that could easily be OP, you can never have too much (excepting what you may neglect for it...) dodge/parry first round as a player. Maybe it could reduce damage done by traps and reduce risk of losing all ap if one does go off? Not my job, but I do like to speculate on the possibilities.

Would you be missing out on much if you don't restart? As someone also noted above, generally we don't. In the 3 years of the game and hundreds of updates, we've never made a change that forced a restart. That would be really bad business, as there are many, many thousands of saved games out there and lots of players who are not interested in replaying the long campaign. There are changes, such as when we improved the loot tables across E1 and E2, that would change the outcome of playing over again, but only in that you'd get more fun gear ... not a game-breaking change by any standard.
