Mid-combat, if one of your hero's actions trigger a story event, after the dialogue AP of all heroes will be restored and it will still be your turn. I have seen this happening with story events triggered by walking to a certain tile (2nd map in the game, something-hollows, there is a battlefield with bones scattered on the floor, just after you bypass the blocked tunnel and rediscover the road), as well as story events presumably triggered by killing monsters (during defense of the gates of that first town from ratkin, which come in waves, in-between the waves AP of the heroes that already acted get restored and it's still your turn).
If you're replaying the game and know about these events, or just get lucky, you can actually gain advantage by using as much AP as possible before restoring all AP with a story event.

I love these spots, and am 110% for leaving them as is, for what it's worth...

I love these spots, and am 110% for leaving them as is, for what it's worth... Oh, I know you are. The designers of the game agree. We built this intentionally and put a lot of work into making it function the way it does. Definitely not a bug, accident or something we'll "fix"
