Trying to figure out / share different control schemas.
Also -- do you use the DPAD? Ever navigate without the minimap?

i use the d-pad most of the time... unless im watching my back, then i monitor every step.
[60% Zoom + No Animated + Follow]
i like the idea of animated steps, but i was used to walking quickly... so i turned it off.
zoom in is good for doors zoom out is good for battle
60% is great for map walking

I use the d-pad when travelling across a zone.
Usually zoomed all out, but not always.
Turned off the animated steps.

For me, 100% Zoom when precision is required. Else, Zoom level varies according to my whims. Animated never on. It works beautifully but painfully slow. Always use D-Pad unless there's suddenly a 10 second "freeze" followed by a haptic buzz. I figure it was the program trying to navigate but unable to do so after some calculations. I ALWAYS use the minimap to navigate when there's a specific building I need to get to.

BG: Thanks for the information.
Have you tried the latest animated? It should be much faster now at all zoom levels. Working to make it even better.
I'm working on the D-Pad issue, you describe what is happening. The pathfinder stubbornly tries to find a way around the wall and that takes a lot of CPU for too many ms. working on that, no fix yet.
The reason we're adding animated walk is because soon encounters will be popping obstacles and bonus tiles on the map and we are trying to get people in the mood to pay attention to it

Out of combat I'm always max zoomed out unless I'm trying to click on a door. In combat I'm around 50% zoom unless I'm avoiding the fight...then its max zoom out. I always use mini map+D-pad for traveling.

@cory- Well, when there's NPCs and visible encounters moving around, I will not be in such a hurry anymore. That feature is the solution itself. ;D Anyway, updating now and will update the situation, be it better-same-worse. Edit: Updated and tested. Animated now moves TWICE as fast! ;D Okay, without animation, it still moves faster but it's a great improvement for the future feature!

I play zoomed out 100% all the time. It is essential in battle, but useful for the way I navigate, too.
I don't see a difference between having smooth scrolling or not. But animated walking makes things go too slowly for me, so that is disabled.
The on-screen dpad is disabled.
I use the map to navigate between zones when I am saving the cost of a taxi fare. The rest of the time I just tap whereever I want to go, and go there, thus the 100% zoom out, but I think even if that way of moving was not possible I would still want things mostly zoomed out. This is the way I think about the world when walking around in real life too -- with a bird's eye view in my head of what I am looking at continually being updated.
If you make more encounters in the streets, and you can see people coming and going, I don't think that I will want to zoom in to see things -- it makes me more likely to want to be zoomed out to be able to see more potential dangers on my screen at once. Of course, I will find out if this surmise is correct when you introduce them.

Of course, I will find out if this surmise is correct when you introduce them. I think when Cory introduces on-screen encounters, Fog of War will be introduced at the same time, if not earlier. Thus, it might not be such a hot idea anymore. Anyway, I envy your slender girl-sized fingers. When zoomed out, I press a 4X4 square area. ;D

I have the benefit now of having a full qwerty on this DROID 3. I still use the real arrow keys on the keyboard sometimes. Most of the time, I play zoomed in, I did disable the Animated walking as it did seem to slow my P.C. when walking about. After playing it for so long with it that fast, it doesn't help to go back and move a little slower. I only really zoom out during combat to track targets, or if I somehow forgot which tile I'm on and trying to get to holes in fences.
