With Elite, there are so many more rumors and planets, it can be difficult to remove the wheat from the chaff. So here's my dream list:
1. I would like to be able to sort or filter rumors. Particularly to hide rumors I've already investigated (e.g., Resource Rush and Dark Age Technology) or just don't care about (e.g., prince in hiding). Obviously, the important rumors are dependent on profession and style of play. I would probably even change my filters many times during the course of a game. For example, I usually play as an Explorer, but sometimes I like to go hunt Aliens. So most of the time I would filter out the Deep Space alien attacks, but sometimes that's all I want to see. I'm guessing other styles of play have rumors that are important and irrelevant. Do others have this interest?
2. When learning about a rumor and on the rumor list, display the grid coordinates and distance. (The Deep Space Rumors already have the coordinates, but not the Urban & Wild Zone Rumors.) This could be identical to the Contracts wording that "The Navigator reports that we are xx AU from the destination." This would really help me decide which rumors to chase vs ignore.
3. To get a general direction with distance. For example, "The Navigator reports that the destination is 9 AU to the NNW." Come to think of it, this would be nice for both rumors and contracts. This would help me determine if there are several rumors in one region. There might be a rumor that I wouldn't chase, except that it happens to be on the way to a higher-yield rumor. Then I'd stop and check it out.
What do others think? I'm particularly curious to hear from those with other styles of play. Do you even look at the rumor page? Do you choose rumors by distance or region?
Liz
