Mmm, an update! Delicious. Tastes like torps. Nothing like updates to keep a game fresh and great.

I found your YouTube, Andrew. I am slightly different in putting my foundation down, but seeing how you start out should allow me to tweak my starting process. I focus on mines out the gate by putting down one on each prime on startup. Then I start on my habs. My focus at first was to put 4 or 5 mines down while keeping up with my population (meaning letting them sit maxed). I will adjust a bit a try that. Thank you, seeing you run your empire is a big help.

Fourth Horseman, would love to see start a new thread with a question or two. Good grist for the mill.

That's kind of what I view the techniques and tips for. It really just stemmed from a comment I made. I think a general question thread here may be a good idea vs the ton of things that are floating. Maybe some general tips on game play and a place where players can discuss their various tactics. Just a thought.

Horseman, There is another Let's Play by Kendel_Vendettie (here) that is pretty great from a learning standpoint. A good portion of what he does works, some other stuff doesn't (and the comments as you progress point out what he isn't doing well [such as not investing properly in his infrastructure]), but it was very instructional for me. There is an occasional swear word, especially when things aren't going well, just fyi. But this was the Let's Play that finally made a bunch of lightbulbs go off in my head. When I started back into ST4X (after completing the tutorial with much difficulty and putting the game down for awhile), I put this on in the background while I played, and he was often answering questions that were in the back of my head for a long time. While I still consider myself a beginner, I think I was able to progress to the point of actually learning from the strategy/build-related postings now. Hope this helps! Also, feel free to message me if you have questions, I don't mind sharing my newbie perspective on what I did to get over the hurdle. :-)

That dude is going to put me to sleep. Lol. I know how to gather my infrastructure. I need to figure out when it is a wise idea to focus on military vs my enonomy/system upgrades.
