Hello, fellow Star traders.
My name is Poryg and I come from an ancient family of Porygs. Our family is as old and has gained several family traits over time, the most important ones to name are the fact that a Poryg cannot meet another Poryg and somehow, many Porygs are mentally connected. In present we see some of the other Porygs' lives in the future in our dreams. Surely has saved us lots of times.
Nobody knows where and when the first Poryg has appeared. But one thing is for sure... We are spread throughout the whole Quadrant and every one of the houses and syndicates contains so many Porygs... Every day new Porygs are found, but will there ever be an end to them? I doubt that. Have you ever met that Cadar Poryg? Well, he was fairly unsuccessful and died early due to mutinous crew. And what about this Steel Song Poryg? One of those that decided to never fly through the deep space and has made lots of money selling teapots. And have you ever met this de Valtos Poryg? Well, you're glad you haven't. Because that is me.
My father was a Steel Song... But on his visit to de Valtos prime he got too drunk... which is why I was born and lived there... With only my mother, although sometimes the Father paid me a visit. Perhaps this was the main reason why the Oracle said that my trip through the Quadrant would be very brutal and I would possibly die very soon. And the signs of this prophecy didn't take too long to show.
During my childhood I was bullied... but not for too long. They had strength in numbers, but I was naturally very smart and soon they couldn't get close to me.
In 57.1 AE I finally got my own ship. A gift from the Father, his old Escape shuttle. He gave it to me as a sign of retirement and bought a one way ticket to the refugee camp.
This ship was the worst ship you could ever imagine. Everyone thought that the Oracle would be right. But I decided I would go against my fate. I wanted to survive... So I fought hard to establish my place in the Quadrant. At first I had to gain some permits and then I needed to gain some bulk, because while I was a smartie, I posed as much danger to them as a wooden stick would. During the first 15 years several ships looted me. But... I knew that I had to let them in order to survive. One day the tides would turn.. . That is what I believed.
Soon I had everything I needed. Permits, warrants, upgrades and money. So I began using the spy and solar wars while also gathering rumors so that I could find the officers I needed. As I was gathering rumors, I began hearing stories... about someone who called himself Brother Dervin and his deeds... The stories of him were so great... And before I realized it... I knew I wanted to be like him. But I didn't want to rush things.
First I needed officers. I found them surprisingly fast. Then I needed to get a better ship... So I bought a small ship, but with bigger cargo hold, to ensure greater efficiency in using spy and solar wars, and later bought a ship.
As the time passed, I had bigger muscles than brain. But I didn't mind anymore. In order to take on huge slimy aliens I needed huge strength... I used the brain to learn some basics about pilot. Also, as I matured, my charisma went higher as well and my crew began to respect me over time... In the end they respected me so much that they didn't get upset when I ran out of water-fuel (if only the people from my battleship paid me the same respect). I observed this strange behavior... And in the end I have gotten into the storybooks as the one Poryg, who has found and explained this strange behavior. Of course there were probably people knowing about this, but I was the Poryg, who brought it to all other Porygs.
By that day there were only three things left to do. First was to buy all military ranks so that I would be protected from trade embargoes. The second one was to find an alien rumor.. . And the third one was to start hunting. So in 252 AE, on level 50, I began walking Brother Dervin's path... With several changes. While he preferred to know a lot about piloting, I spent huge amount of time training 1v1 combat with my bodyguard (Truth is though, I don't neglect pilot skill that much.). While he preferred dealing with lower level enemies using ship guns, I depend on my crew the entire time and therefore as well as having basic knowledge how to use ship guns, with my military officer I pay the same attention to my crew - making sure it is more afraid of me than of my enemies.
I was generally the same as one Steel Song Poryg. Same stats, ship... (or so I thought. But I accidentally got 1 hull less, which resulted in only 18 guns instead of 20) He just had Leviathan and I had wanted to try the plasma door cutters, because his battles were always short. But then I realized that there is no way to compare us, because his life path is way easier. His oracle told him that his skills would be tested, but from what I have seen, he should be in far less dangers than I am.
In 255 AE I encountered my first alien, in a square in Cadar space. It was a lv 131 ajannik. He welcomed me with a torp. Not just once, but six times. But in the end he probably had low tactics, because he couldn't hit me only once. When we clashed swords though, he proved to be much tougher.
The fight was brutal and bloody, but I was still in control of the ship
This was the signal. If I was to meet stronger ships than this one, the Leviathan would be much better than the Plasma door cutters. Luckily I didn't need to look too far and soon I could continue in seeking more enemies. It's just interesting that even though I had two faction planets 2 AU away, third one 3 AU away and an indy planet 3 AU away, I couldn't find any repairs for my ship in any of those planets. I had to fly a bit further to find repairs. Well, in the end I probably didn't really need the repairs. Because although I met a second alien soon after I returned from the repairs, he was nowhere near the first one. A lv 106 Jyeeta predator that didn't survive the boarding of our crew. And I really wonder if I lost more crew to him and his crew or to the exploding engines.
The last alien I met in the Cadar space was a lv 49 xebolits alien. While he had a small ship with only 100 crew, they were quite tough. Nearly 70 died during the first turn... But then 2 turns went without any casualties on his side. In the end he stood alone against me... And died as I hurt him with 2 damage per turn.
And then the aliens withdrew from this square. So as I entered lv 51, I had to begin searching... Only to find disappointment.
They say, the space is full of surprises and disappointments. The lv 106 Jyeeta was one of them... But definitely not the last one.
When I sought for new Alien attacks, I found no rumors at first. Even the best spice halls Rychart offers completely failed me. In the end I resorted to my most reliable source of rumors, De Valtos planet. But in the end I found a rumor about alien attacks. To my pleasure it was only 2 AU away from the closest planet. But to my disappointment it was the only planet in the range of 7 AU.
But well, the welcome there was even sadder. In faction space I didn't need to bother with other ships. I led chats with warship captains, shared my victory stories with story hungry bounty hunters... And I was able to surrender to pirates with no big deal. I was an alien hunter and attacking other ships than aliens and space hives wasn't something I wanted.
But once I began traveling through sectors that belonged to nobody,.. the situation changed. The Independents don't value edicts and rank, so when I encountered a bounty hunter, there was no space for words. No surrendering to pirates. I was fighting for my life there, and the first ship I encountered tried to ram me to death. But he had low pilot and the damage he took wasn't enough to protect him from being boarded.
In 263.19 AE I met my first alien there. When I first looked at him, I was smiling. Level 194... I was a mere lv 51. But there was no turning back. Surprisingly, even that alien charged forward. Soon we were only 10 km from what could be our death... But after I commenced boarding operation, I stood there watching with open mouth. One turn and his crew was decreased from 200 to less than 15%. Soon the captain was left alone. But then I delivered two hits at once to put him out of his misery.
An alien captain over 380% of my level that has taught me to not judge a book by it's cover just after a single turn
The next one was a heela alien. And he was fairly good, despite being only lv 22. His crew held on for pretty long time... But after 8 turns it was engines, what failed him... with secret help of my detonation squad. The next ship was a lv 74 Zorga, who didn't even need help. Their engines exploded when our ships connected. After that several foolish pirates and bounty hunters followed their examples. But in the end I met a lv 77 Xrangg alien. He tried a welcome torpedo, but seeing that they were inefficient, he closed range... But he immediately lost 77 crew members out of 80. He and his two officers fought their way out for 8 turns... But in the end they could not stand against the overwhelming power of me and my crew.
So far the last alien I have met was a lv 36 narvidian hunter. But he was just a small fly. However, before the Aliens withdrew from the location, there is one encounter with a Pirate I should mention.
He was one of those indies that just tried to steal my 80 weapons. Opening the battle with several torp shot attempts, on his lv 64 he failed to hit me... So he closed range. But then he was sucked closer to me. He tried to escape, but it was too late. I finally, after 8 turns, boarded him... But when I evaluated the ship damage, I ended up surprised like I never had been! He survived the boarding... Completely shaken, but unharmed! The morale hit was so significant, but they have chosen their death bravely. They detonated their engines and attempted to take me with them, leaving me with only 10 solar Sails. But in the end no significant harm has been done to me or my crew.
While taking significant crew morale hit, the enemy ship was otherwise intact... I lost 16 solar Sails and 29 crew during this turn though.
In the end the aliens escaped from that square... But I will find them.
It's 270.15 AE today and my journey is far from over.
