It would be nice to have a category or differentiation of Kung fu/martial arts skills. In close combat and boarding, these skills can be huge.

There sort of is already. Warrior skill helps primarily with the first few turns of boarding, and Strength attribute takes over as the primary attribute for boarding battles that go on continuously longer than 3 turns in a row.

Cool request, perhaps a job we could add to Star Traders 2 post-launch!

Upgrade your "Warrior" skill, increase your "Strength" attribute and upgrade your ship with features like Sonic Disrupters, or if you prefer hand to hand combat, Leviathan Armor.
THANKS!

I initially thought these were feature requests for ST RPG, based on the forum, but fallen pointed out these posts are probably more about ST2, which is great. We'll definitely be featuring multiple unique martial disciplines in ST2.

Hi Cory, that's true. I should have been more explicit that I was making requests for ST2. I am no expert on ST1 although I have put in some time and had a lot of fun. Enjoying the perspectives and strategies others have with the game.

No, I don't think this is correct. Strength becomes more important as you get more involved in duels and are more likely to suffer HP loss after 3 turns in a row, but it never "takes over" Warrior. Warrior will always be king in board attack success and damage.

You're probably right @starfixer , as I'm no expert when it comes to boarding.

Strength is just a support stat. Before the new meta, it is good to have it 300% of captain's level, but the more the merrier in terms of resistance to boarding. But in terms of boarding aggression, it's better to have huge warrior skill.

But in terms of boarding aggression, it's better to have huge warrior skill. This is also wrong. Pilot and AGILITY is most important, and if you get boarded, Warrior is most important. Strength is critical for soaking and dealing HP damage, but I wouldn't say its more important than Warrior. Overall its hard to tell where Warrior is better as you cannot invest Warrior without Strength. But they are both important in different ways, with Warrior more important in board attack and board resist overall, and Strength (maybe) more important in resisting HP loss and duels.

Great to see the two of you discussing strategy together. I think you both have some very strong, very different ideas and have both played a lot of Star Traders!

Well, according to one post on st RPG forum the ship agility doesn't matter in either boarding or getting boarded, but otherwise I agree with you. On boarding warrior and weapons are the most important, on resistance to board pilot is the most important, and quite funnily, it looks like the player always moves first, which makes whole combat easier

I can give you a 100% guarantee of that. Agility is essentially a multiplier for Pilot, at least in most situations.
