Stratos Orbital was a great tie into the loose thread of the Templar Battleforce Quadrant.
My favorite mission - Stratos Defense Relay -
The security turrets were a very large threat, they even made the narvidians pale with their firepower, range, and sheer health. This was my favorite mission because of the pacing inbetween the turrets and swarms of xeno. I really had to know when I could press my advantage and when I had to consolidate my forces in terms of heat/holding gained territory. This is something that has been well done in the main game and continues to be well done in the post-game missions.
Funniest moment - Missing text from Templar Captain after Kathos disables second turret in final mission - Stratos Reactor Core
I am sure it is just commented text or something in the like, but the Templar Captain only says " The" after Kathos disables the second turret in the final level , after which the Captain then yells "Charge!" . I died laughing.. I believe this is only possible if you had taken over the Command Center instead of rescue Marielle Throlle ( which I did).
The only thing I really wanted more of - Story -
I know this is a tactical squad based game. However, in the case of Stratos, I felt like there was an opportunity to display a few nuggets more about the Cult of Shelgeroth's long running plans or at least the experiments and what they were planning to do aboard the doomed station when the Templar inevitably showed up. Maybe I missed out on more info because I did not rescue Marielle. I chose Command Center because it offered a full explanation on what happened in the station. However, what was shown did provide closure, so no foul. Just a wish.
Conclusion - I was sad that this was the end of the mission content. I was also happy that I had beaten this very large tactical squad game. This game has over-shadowed even XCom 2 and my old memories of X-Com UFO Defense/Terror from the Deep. Well done!
Thanks to the Trese Brothers for the awesome free expansion pack!
