A couple minutes ago I turned on my tablet (a Samsung SM-T520 with Android version 4.4.2), opened Heroes of Steel 4.2.47, and was disappointed to discover that my progress (in Krellin Deeps) had been rolled back to before I'd opened several chests (and equipped their contents!) and moved my characters some distance away. The first chest had roughly the same contents as before, but the contents of the second chest had changed. My previous play session was earlier this morning.
Eep! When I reopened the game after checking the OS and game version numbers for this bug report, the game had rolled back yet again to before I'd opened the chests, and the contents were still different. The chests in question are the two east of the rat pool.
I'm assuming this is a bug, but if not, then I need to know what I have to do to make sure progress is captured.
Thanks for any insights.

@imryll - the game auto-saves very consistently as you play. I am very surprise you're running into this at all, with hundreds of thousands of players we've never seen it reported. If you are force killing the app, that might cause short losses of save progress? Are you hard rebooting your device during play? Is it an older device? Are you having issues with SD memory with other apps too?
If you want guaranteed save-to-the moment, quit the game to the main menu, but I would say in 99.99998% of cases that is not needed.

I routinely exit by touching the three bars in the upper lefthand corner and choosing "return to main menu" and then "guit." Another rollback just happened again in the same place, so something weird is definitely going on. I had previously played up to the Red Hill barracks without similar mishaps so I'm not surprised that you're surprised. The tablet is just over a year old, and the only other game currently on it is a chess game of my husband's, but I had no problem with Fallout Shelter or another RPG demo I'd previously played on it. The tablet has 9.03GB of currently available space, and I'm not using an SD card, so I don't think it's a storage issue. Update: I made another routine exit, and it finally saved. Still, it's a puzzle, and I'm pretty bummed about losing Tam's new bow. Thanks for the reply.

@imryll - very sorry for the loss of the bow ... if you continue to have issues with it, using the 3 bars to get the menu up and then quit is the safest way to force the game to save at any point. Still very surprised about this. Have no fear, better bows will be found

The only thing I can think of that would cause this are backup/restore services, something copying an old version of the game back into the game's folder. Or something on the tablet blocking the game's ability to write out the save file.
