I have tried a build with dual wielding, and now I actually wonder if shields are worth the bother. It gives you flexibility, with attacks worth lower AP when you can't swing both weapons at the same time. It gives you the opportunity to use any strength or dexterity based weapons with maximum efficiency and is usually more powerful than one 2H weapon. You get to choose from a much wider range of options (maybe it's just me, but I didn't find a lot of shields, and their stats are usually less interesting than those of weapons). Eventually, you can find daggers that actually have higher parry value than shields, so you don't even loose on the defense.

Great to see both strategies in the works!

Just a quick comment on shields. While parry values on daggers may exceed shields occasionally, in general shields will give better parry values Ep 3 onward plus have unique magical abilities not available on weapons.
In Ep 4, I've seen shields with parry of 13 or 14 while weapons have 8 or 9. For maximum melee defense, shields generally give a better bang for the buck overall.

A time for each, certainly. I don't run dual wielding much with Vraes, but when I do it's a ton of fun and usually only when I'm playing KJ, Selen, Fyona, to have two other tanks to take the pressure off V. The lack of steady defense is very noticeable, and though he is a natural tank, he will take far more damage with this strategy than without. Shield Vraes boasts an insurmountable defense, and can use Phalanx shield-- not sure if that was included in BLM's considerations. Its auto-block combined with late-game shield auto-block can make him avoid ~70% of any ranged attack. Nobody else can do that

IMHO any dual wielding will come to end in EP4 after getting personal ultimate weapon. You can get only one, and it's stats make any other weapon not worth AP spend for attack.

It should be noted as well that the Parry on a shield is added to the overall Parry value of a character while the Parry on weapons takes only the highest value. So a dual wield with Parry 3 and Parry 10 weapons will get 10 total Parry while a Parry 3 weapon and Parry 8 shield will give 11 Parry.

But what if you choose the armor? Looking at Kincaid's legendary choices, the armor seems like a better alternative. I suspect the same for Vrase?
