Currently playing on "normal" difficulty, & would like to increase the intensity a bit without starting over. I've looked, but have been unable to find a way to do this. Is there one?

Discostallion -br] Afraid not, Templar. The only way to change the difficulty of a squad after starting the campaign... is to beat the campaign. Then you'd have a chance to replay at a higher difficulty.

Only if you beat the campaign, at that point you are offered a chance to change difficulty. If you restart, you can skip the first 5 levels and go straight to the Righteous Fallen, and then on to either Galantia Cross or the Ferarai Lance. Squad starts with ~500 RQ and all the levels you would have earned.

Bummer. I'm 28 missions in, & starting to feel like as long as I keep my Templars close enough together to support each other; nothing can stand in their way. Perhaps swapping my Pally out for a berserker will spice things up, or figure out the stealth game, & run a deep operative. Thanks for the help guys!

Discostallion -
Sounds like you're kicking Xeno butt, Templar! What difficulty are you playing on? Depending on that, it's a great chance to work on other classes or new uses/talents for existing members like you're considering.
Finishing the campaign is worthwhile, IMO. There are still a few nasty surprises to challenge your squad, and an optional series of missions you can take once you beat the regular campaign. Not to mention the fun of replay! Honestly, I have one Brutal difficulty squad I have run through the campaign so many times I lost count. To me it was worth it to keep leveling up and explore new items on the RQ tree.
That being said, starting a whole new squad on the next difficulty will definitely challenge you! Certain tactics that work at one difficulty simply won't at the next highest. The drop in percentage of captain's level for new recruits, less supply points to start each level... it starts to feel like a whole different game.
Add in the branching storyline, random enemy generation and that some levels don't play the same twice, and you have exceptional replay value!
Also, welcome to the Forum! It's great to have another Templar to bounce ideas off.

You can also move more quickly if you avoid optional levels by looking at a guide. Then you can replay the campaign and do all the side levels at a higher difficulty.

Swap up your squad, that is a good idea. Or restart and jump up to a really hard difficulty. You'll find it a changed game

Sounds like there is a lot that I've missed. I have no idea what "Captain's levels" are, nor have I noticed any "optional levels" or "branching plot lines". I've just destroyed the FTL transmitter, and while the story has been awesome, it's been pretty linear. I could be forgetting an earlier fork in the road though, as I put the game down for awhile & then picked it back up.
Also, are you guys saying that my current squad will continue to level up after I finish the campaign & start over on the next difficulty?

An example from early in the campaign: The Ferari lance set of missions (I believe) are optional. Even if not you still get a choice to use the explorers airlock or the other one. Another one that I remember is with the xeno spores on ?Mok Prime? You get the compound between deploying from a drop ship or acquiescing to Prince Tarquins request of deploying to the capital. Your choice here affects the mission(s?) you take on the way to the spores. In my experience, the campaign's overarching narrative is mostly linear, with smaller decisions usually relating to how you want to tackle something

There's also the skittering hive at Kaldun, which is completely optional.

The story is pretty linear overall, though there are some alternative paths through a few junctures. There's also a bit of leeway in what order you do certain missions. Personally, though, I wish there had been more optional side quests on the way -- like missions that aren't necessarily directly related to the story but just some miscellaneous deployments for various tasks. After destroying the FTL device I thought there might be some time for one or two "leisure" missions, but then upon seeing the intro for the next mission it was pretty clear to me that the grand climax is coming up. In any case, the extra missions after the last battle were lots of fun. Challenging, but fun. Hoping more optional campaigns would follow! (IIRC Cory Trese mentioned something about desert maps... that would be a nice additional campaign, I think.)

redartrats - if you chatted with Nyra after the end of the campaign, she drops all sorts of hints about exactly what desert.

We're trying to develop additional content and storylines. You would probably be shocked at how much work producing a full campaign expansion for a game like Templar Battleforce actually takes. Hopefully we'll be able to afford additional updates to the campaign in the future. If you'd like to support that effort, share the game online and leave a review on Steam, Amazon, iTunes or Google Play!

Cory Trese I didn't mean it in the way that the story was "too" linear. I know how fast the complexity of a branching storyline will explode: combinatorial explosion and all that. It was more of a wishlist that there would be more missions to play, and that they don't necessarily need to be incorporated into the main storyline (supposedly it would be less effort to make standalone levels -- at least that's my assumption). It's really a subtle of saying, I'm lovin' this game and want more!
