What does Hyperion Superstructure (+5) do? It says the ship is more durable. So what does that mean, a bigger Hull?

Yup, it provides more armor slots for your ship. You then have to buy armor to beef up that protection.
The only way you can buy armor is to be a military officer, or go to an independent faction.

Ah ... the ole +5 of Smiting. Adds +5 to all rolls related to beating your opposition to a bloody pulp.
