I've tried the default Syndicate factions on the small maps a few times and no matter what what I do, I feel the other two lags behind Cadar.
What factions are good combinations and do you use them differently from each other? I feel due to the min-max nature of the game and the similar build format that needs to be followed at the beginning (since you can't really control population, so you'll always build Hub + Factory first), some factions just can't keep up and hurts the progression of the empire as a whole.
Finally, my understanding is that the factions need to be in somewhat of a balance to reduce political strife. Does this mean you have to have colonies and ships being equal, or can you have say, one faction with economic dominance, one with the most colonies, and one with only ships?

Cadar's +2 CP is a useful bonus for them at the start, but I've found that in the long run De Valtos is more profitable. Rychart is the runt of the litter. I always go with pure Syndicate or Clans, and I don't have the faction dlc, so it is always either Cadar/Valtos/Rychart or Thulun/Jav/Song for me. I try not to mix Clans and Syndicates, because mixed factions get worse odds for political conflicts. Finally, my understanding is that the factions need to be in somewhat of a balance to reduce political strife. Does this mean you have to have colonies and ships being equal, or can you have say, one faction with economic dominance, one with the most colonies, and one with only ships? For best political results, try to keep colonies, ships, etc. the same for all factions.
