Just started playing again after a few years(switched phones, forgot that i could transfer, jumpgate, team fortress classic and eqemulator got in the way some too hehe) so imagine my joy when ST and all my unlocks were patiently waiting for me at the store:) Anyhoo, just got ship stomped by a lvl 127 Kranng Alien. I won't go into detail about losing my 1.2mil ship or my loss of 1.7mil credits OR any detail on how i had hundreds of artys/elecs/weps stashed for later... Diff:Insane Explorer-Cadar Officer-mech/pilot/scout I had escape shuttle/records/25% sail/omni stealth/exo-crawler Lvl-38 turn-7501 xp:8[1438] Char-10 Wis-30 Quick-40 Str-21 Exp-25 pi-40 neg-10 tac-30 ste-40 war-20 int-10 My question(s) after all the ramblin is am I trying to spread out my points to much? Had i fallen behind the clock(i personally felt i had with a noticeable increase in encounters) I could not pull away to ram myself to saftey so do i have to build towards board because of said aliens? Or did i just roll a 1 on a 1d20 to encounter this bugger? Any thoughts yall have would be helpful and greatly appreciated. I plan on movin back up to impossible but its been awhile so im still rememberin'

So basically you got one of the worst rolls of the dice possible. Getting a xeno that is 3.34 times more powerful than you is almost as high as you can go. I found one that was 3.89x my level once and defeated it, but it takes a very dedicated build. When you get to Insane/Impossible xeno are basically the thing that is put in the game to make sure that there is always something that can kill you. There are some dedicated boarder builds that can help, but ultimately there is always an, albeit a very small, chance that something can kill even the greatest of captains. So you can either go down the board/alien killer route ( see this recent thread) or if you want to get to high levels without a build like that, play conservatively as a spy or military officer, stay in the green and don't carry artifacts. Spies are probably the best bet for leveling quickly (assuming there is a pretty constant stream of Spy Wars) and they also benefit from stealth so your dropping the chances of having any encounters and therefore encounters with xeno.
