I'm curious, before the Captain was promoted what class would they have been? Do all officer types have sword training like the Captain and Major Luthor?

The Captain is specifically named as a Corporal before their battlefield promotion. Seeing as only other officer types use blades, pistols and shields, I would imagine they lead smaller squads of Templars, while Captains lead entire Battleforces.

It also depends on their lineage. The main character in Templar Battleforce isn't a Captain because he trained in Blades -- he's a Captain for reasons beyond his weapon training. Our Captain carries blades because his or her ancestors did. Training with the blade, pistol and shield are part of the that character's history and bloodline.

I think that what raises questions is that there's no other Blade Class Leviathans besides Paladins in the game. If there was a Blade Class just like Soldier or Engineer it would just make sense that Captain could potentially be anything. But since Captain is a specific class in the skill tree with specific talents that seem to require a blade for him it seems like all officers must wield blades. Perhaps our Captain is a unique type of Paladin? It would be interesting to see a Rifle class Captain.

My perspective is that the skill tree / requisition tree is unique to each squad and the Templar lineages that are being called upon to form the Battleforce.
I feel like there are some Blade Class Leviathans, besides Paladins, in the game as NPC. I might be wrong, but that was my perception.

Yeah there's Luthor, but he again just reinforces the argument that officers carry blades and blades are for officers (and Paladins). Maybe my point was that there's no blade users who are not officers.
As far as I remember Nyra is never given a rank, but she seems to be special and reside on the bridge, kinda gives the impression that she is an officer too. Or maybe it's just the blade fooling us?

contributor - I guess when you recruit your own Paladin? Blade. When the Scout-Assassin builds drop, Blade. Or maybe you're trying to say this is all part of the great Cybersword conspiracy ... be careful where you start asking questions, my friend

I don't think there were any officers besides Kathos that weren't Blade Leviathans. As for NPCs, besides Luthor and Nyra, I haven't seen a Blade Class anywhere.

I've always felt that the bridge was a bit ... underoccupied, given the importance of its functions. I wonder if it's feasible to occasionally add a random visiting templar NPC that gives some "standard" templar responses like "Vae victus, templar!" when you talk to them. Just for the atmosphere, and to lessen the feeling of under-occupancy on the bridge. Maybe a random engineer once in a while doing something with the various mechanical deco there.
This would also dispel the notion of officers being only blade class? Perhaps?

That seems like a pretty cool idea. If we don't get it into Battleforce, we'll include it in the sequel. I'm trying to convince fallen to call it "Templar Battleforce: Dawn of Winter" <3
