Foreword
This thread will follow the... what we'll call an origin story for my unexpected OC Alberich Müller.
When I started playing Templar Assault, I actually didn't expect much. It looked like a cheesy little game, popping up in my Recommendeds on the Play Store. It doesn't even have multiplayer (gasp!) and it hasn't been updated since 2015.
But! I like adventure, so I figured what the heck and gave it a shot. I mean, it had a free version, so I didn't have to shill out anything, and it said there were no ads, which is a phat bonus.
What I didn't expect was to get so invested in it. I got so invested in this demo, in fact, that my characters damn near began to grow their own personalities. It was at that point that I went ahead and threw the three bucks at the full game.

IMG: Entering the StardockAlberich's journal, a folder of files in his PC system titled "Active Duty" Entry 1 All of us are clean slates. We come fresh out of the graduation ceremony and into the fray. We didn't know each other in our childhoods, nor in our adolescent years. But that doesn't matter out here. We only need to know a handful of things. Obey your commanders. Enforce Shalun Law. Purge the alien. In that triumvirate of commandments as fresh Templars, we were brothers. And as brothers, we were assigned to Sterrid Naraz, a veteran soldier from another nameless conflict in an unremarkable sector of the quadrant who had recently been given the new role of captain over a cleanly polished, brand spanking, tag-still-on-the-shirt, size-sticker-still-on-the-pants new battle force. Captain Naraz is a calm and collected man, proud in his species and the Templar way. He's older than us of course, but can't be too much older. I haven't asked him his age, and frankly I don't care to. His hair is still brown and he has only these stout facial muscles at the lower half of his cheeks that give him this sort of permanent frown. He'll probably have jowels if he survives to old age. And according to the briefing, survival seems like a small hope. We knew when we were being trained that we were going to war. Our war has no name, but it is war nonetheless, and people die in those, you know. But according to Naraz, things where we're going, things will be... Brutal. We're assaulting a stardock that was taken by a rebel force, another group that chose to betray the Shalun law. Naraz says we must be swift in gaining our foothold as we begin the attack, and so this is going to be a chance for him to test his scouts, and to steel us for the coming universal constant that we ExoScouts will forever be on the front line, closest to the action, and the most likely to die. But our job is most important, as we oversee our more specialized brothers. Naraz says that whichever of us impresses him the most in this initial attack will be made his Second, and will follow him on each mission until we die. I'm not saying that I don't want that kind of recognition, but I will say that I happen to like being alive. But who knows? Maybe I won't for much longer if things are as bad as Naraz says they are. Entry 2 Captain Naraz wasn't lying. They really are brutal, the missions we Templars are deployed on. We began this mission ready enough. Entry to the stardock was by the books, and our formation flawless. But not minutes into the raid, chaos breaks out. I had spent the last few years of my adolescence and pre-deployment life training in these Leviathan suits. I had spent so long, in fact, that I forgot how fast we humans are. I wasn't the only one. As we made our way towards the torpedo bay, Shelnix took on heavy fire and received mortal wounds immediately. She spent the rest of this mission in grievous pain. It wasn't loud, but we could hear the occasional sob and wince over our comms. Shelnix was strong. As we scouts made it to the torpedo bay, Captain Naraz held the landing bay alone. Voveno and Shelnix led that procession, and I took the rear guard to ensure the Captain had backup ready of he needed it. He and that light leviathan gun of his said he didn't. I moved towards the chamber directly north to cover that entry as we prepared to reunite with the Captain once Voveno reprogrammed the torpedo bay's security systems and claimed it for us, as well as disarming the firing mechanisms to help our brethren on the outside engaged in ship-based assault. As I moved north, Voveno followed, and Shelnix covered rear guard. Reuniting with the Captain, we proceeded through the room north towards the hull repair station. This required us to cross a corridor the enemy knew would force us apart due simply to the speed of our suits. They had watched how we moved so far, and knew exactly where we would be going next, and took advantage of that. The corridor was small, and squeezing our huge suits through properly was hugely stressful, and that corridor became the biggest site for bloodshed. Voveno didn't quite make it through so well, and took heavy fire. There's really nothing like watching a brother get torn to pieces just a few feet in front of you. But he made it through despite his mortal wounds and covered me while I reprogrammed the security in the hull repair station, locking the enemy out of it. The Captain and Shelnix covered us from that bloody corridor. Getting back out of the repair station was more arduous than getting into it because of Voveno's wounds, but with the Captain and I covering the west and south, Shelnix could lead Voveno through to our designated extraction points. Once we were all in that hallway, textbook Phalanx maneuvers let the exit mission slide like grease. Shelnix and Voveno died from their wounds during extraction, but if it weren't for them, we would have failed that crucial first attack. Voveno was a good shot, too, and I feel like if he had survived, the captain would have made him Second. But he didn't. Only the Captain and I made it through, unscathed even. Part of me wonders how, thinking it a miracle, but I know that it was no miracle beyond the selfless sacrifices of Shelnix and Voveno. We don't have long to recuperate. I'm glad I had long enough to write this, but we're going to redeploy soon. And this time, I may not survive, as there are no ExoScouts to go ahead of me. I'm the ExoScout. That'll be my job... I was happy to write a review, gave it five stars and everything. This is a good thing you guys have going and I'm happy I found your work on the store! Perhaps when I feel finished with my writing for Alberich, I'll move on to buy Battleforce! It looks fantastic and I like the teasing allure of customizing my characters more! I hope that my writing here can match up with what you envision for the Star Traders setting, and for the Templar. They're very much alike to the Space Marines, but I want to know more about what makes them different. I want to know what their HUD looks like in their armor, what details they see with their Atreus Systems. It's all very exciting, and the fact that it isn't all just out there in some encyclopedia or anthology makes it that much more alluring to me. The setting you guys have built, and the progress you've made in general as developers, is actually very inspiring, motivational even, as I want to design my own games soon.

Alberich Müller - great to have you on board The best way to learn more about the Templars, the setting, the Star Traders is to play the series of games -- Star Traders RPG, Templar Assault, Star Traders 4X Empires, and Templar Battleforce. Star Traders 2 is coming soon, and with it, an official lore book that will cover a lot of the bases. In the mean time, love the writing and keep it up!

Entry 3Our next deployment has us purging the aliens, my first encounter with the xenoforms of course. "Fire team" is the proper term for what we send in to these missions, with our team consisting of three and a commander. This time, it couldn't be more literal. Our fire team consists, of course, of Captain Naraz and I, but now includes an Incinerator named Udan Yuriah and a Berserker named Scipio Gaiuz. Udan is a nervous type, neurotic or anxious maybe. But he lacks a certain element of self confidence, which, to be true, has me on edge. He carries a dangerous Hydra fire weapon, and when not treated or used properly, bad things can happen. But I think that so long as we're careful, we'll do fine. Scipio seemed overwhelmingly excited. As a Berserker, the aliens are his "natural prey", to use his own words. His confidence is a real antithesis to the anxious nature of Udan, and the two seem almost comical side by side. Captain Naraz has every ounce of faith in our mission. He is a Naval officer, and thus ensures we enter every battle with extra stores of ammunition, which will come in handy for Udan. Judging by the ATAS map, our trip through the swarm will be long and arduous. In other news, for my survival of the last mission, the Captain ordered and presented me with a plasma rifle to take into combat to cover Scipio. I'm sure everything will be okay.

You are absolutely right, of course, as I already have the Star Traders game itself installed! I bought a somewhat similar game a great while ago that was simpler, with a smaller map and a deal bit simpler in gameplay. I enjoyed that experience enough, and Star Traders RPG looks like it'll expand on that enjoyment phenomenally. I look forward to following your setting and supporting you as developers!
