Howdy, all!
I've recently got back into ST after a lobg hiatus, and I've decided to give the Merchant track a go this time around instead of my usual combat builds. One of the keys, obviously, to mercantile success, is to follow many of the rumors heard around the galaxy.
Curiously, though, I haven't been able to find any infomation on howbthe Rumors log is managed. Do rumors fall off the log after a certain time? Will they remain until the relevant event concludes (shortage/surplus)? Is there any way to manually dismiss a rumor that isn't relevant to me?
It'd be nice to get my bearings on how the system manages all the information I run around collecting, especially knowing if things like a surplus or shortage are still active if I continue to see the rumor... Or if they ever fall off the list at all!
Thanks!

klassent - rumors stay in the log until the event passes.

Welcome to the forum! Rumors stay on your list for as long as their event is still happening in the galaxy. For example, a shortage rumor will only disappear from your rumor list when the shortage has ended. EDIT: fallen answered while I was still typing.

I don't think merchants necessarily need the rumors to go on Or at least my merchants go without them. It's profitable enough to just do merchandise, as long as you aren't pushing ranks forward. Also, I don't use rumor trading, because rumors are very unreliable. You can hunt for rumors only for them to end when you almost arrived there. You can also encounter inconveniently placed trade embargoes too... And hunting for rumors is actually a pain too

It depends on how quickly you want to find success as a Merchant. Rumors are not required, but they certainly will dramatically increase your profit per turn rate!

It'll keep you rich and/or dead.

It's pretty bad if you get distracted by shortages. Imagine your captain with a missing arm, concussion, broken femur, still bleeding... must get... cheap... electronics...
Dammit, xeno hive....

I am also an opportunist, but of a different kind. I chase shortages I randomly find, because I know I either can or can't meet them.
